I Waited 2-Hours to try Japan’s Fluffiest Egg Sandwich

I’m Paolo, from Tokyo,
and that’s the problem because I need to be in Osaka. The other day, my mind was blown away on Instagram. I came across the fluffiest and most succulent egg sandwich my eyes had ever seen, and I had to have it. But, to my disappointment, it was located all the way in Osaka. My wife would never let me travel
3+ hours just to get an egg sandwich. I’ve got work to do. Plus, I’ve got to take care of my kid! So, I had to find a way to trick – I mean, convince –
her to let us go to Osaka cuz this was her first response. No! But I refused to take no for an answer. So, I promised her three things. One, I take her to a hotel that’s unlike any hotel she’s ever experienced in her life. Two, she could do something cultural. She loves the stuff! And three, Wolfy would also
get to do something he loved. And she said okay! Now that my plan to get this gooey and irresistible-looking Japanese egg sandwich is set into motion, time to pack up the family, get them on the shinkansen, and get the road on the show! So, first things first, like I promised, I planned a hotel that she’s
definitely never experienced ever in her life, or me for that matter! Check this out. This is not just a hotel, but it’s a hotel built on top of a real deal Japanese temple. It’s called Candeo Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi. Right along Midosuji,
surrounded by high fashion brands, which I thought couldn’t hurt
as Maiko also loves shopping. And walking distance from here is Shinsaibashi and Namba –
must-visit stops when you’re visiting Osaka! Especially if it’s your very first time. Basically, we’re right in the center of Osaka. Good choice, right? And there you go –
promise number one already taken care of! And one eggs-traordinary step closer
to my beautiful egg sandwich. What? Oh! Three beds! I want this. You want this one? [Music] Oh! It’s a Don Quixote. Okay, so we just arrived in our hotel room and you can see that we have three single beds. Although I prefer probably, like a king? I think we can just like put these beds together later. I think that should be no problem. It’s just nice, I guess,
if you have, like, a bigger family. Oh, and people can sleep there. You can actually fit
quite a lot of people in this room. And check out this Japanese toilet. It welcomes you every time you go in. Hello! Pretty cool, right? Bathroom… [Music] This is us. Cute! So, one thing that’s nice about this place is
they also have this mini deli here. So you can just grab stuff, you don’t have to go outside,
and just bring it to your room. Looks like they have
a pretty good selection of beer here. Look at all of these cheeses as well. Maybe get some strawberry chocolates. Also, for the sauna heads like me, the Sky Spa here is
definitely worth checking out with indoor and open air baths
and of course, a hot ass sauna! All right, Wolfy.
We’re ready to see Osaka? Good morning, Maiko. Good morning. How’d you sleep? Motorcycle gangs woke me up last night, didn’t it? There’s like a bike – motocycle gang –
that like came passed through several times. – Oh, really?
– I woke up twice! But I was out. Oh, yeah. You were. This morning, we actually got access to the shrine. So we’re going to go check that out. Alright.
You ready to do this, Wolfy? Want to say good morning to everyone? No? No good morning? Gengar, are you ready? Gengar! Would have loved to start the day
with the egg sandwich in hand already. That creamy sandwich of joy, but I’m not there yet. I’ve got a few more things to cross off my list. [Music] So located right at the entrance of our hotel,
as mentioned earlier, sits Mitsu-Tera. Home to the beloved goddess of Minami, a symbol of mercy in Osaka for centuries. The temple is actually quite historic
as it was founded in year 744, with the current hall dating back to 1808. It’s one of the rarest wooden structures in Osaka
as it survived World War II. This is insense so please open your left hand. Oops. I’m an idiot. And pour the scent over your body
to cleanse your body and soul. Wow, just the level of detail in here
is just insane. Its magnificent ceiling is adorned with more than a 100 flowers while the columns and carvings are finished
with lacquer, gold leaf, and vibrant pigments. Creating a breathtaking display of craftsmanship,
super Edo-style! There you see the principal deity,
the Eleven-Faced Kannon. He says that the 11-faced goddess of mercy
stands at the center, watching over people from every angle, 360°, no matter where they are. Dope! This is such a unique experience and we even got to participate in the ritual. Wolfy enjoyed it, I enjoyed it and most importantly,
Maiko especially enjoyed it. Cultural event exquisitely completed. Almost there. Alright, now that we’re done, time to get some breakfast. [Music] What are you guys getting? Yogurt for Wolfy. They have a lot of dry fruit. So they got a nice little breakfast buffet set up over there. Got me a salad, galore! Getting ready for all the food we’re going to be eating today. And Maiko, of course,
got her Japanese-style breakfast. Doing her TGK thing.
Raw eggs over rice. And was even delighted
that there was a soy sauce bar. Good for her cuz all I could think was,
is she really taunting me with her egg breakfast? Urgh!
My time is coming soon. We’d like to get to the Shinsekai area. – Maiko, I’ve got a question for you.
– Yes. Why is Osaka always associated with a tiger? – Tiger?
– Yeah. Hanshin tigers. – But why?
– Why? – Ok, you don’t know.
– But why giants? Interestingly, you’ll find many
Hanshin Tigers fans in Osaka. If I go into the details,
Hanshin Tigers isn’t Osaka’s team. It’s actually Hyogo prefecture’s team. Well, that’s one thing we learned today. Awesome! Okay, so I’m eggs-tremely close to my mouthwatering goal! Just one more promise to take care of
and I think I can get it done at Shinsekai. Despite this place being a heavy tourist spot, which I’m personally not a fan of these days, I know my son is gonna love this spot as it has something here that he definitely wants to do. [Music] Oh, this statue is actually called Billiken. A cute icon of Osaka
that you see throughout the city. It’s said that rubbing the soles
of Billiken’s feet brings good luck, so many people stroke it when they’re making a wish. Let’s put it away once. Play later… Later… it’s dangerous. Yeah. So, this area is probably geared to tourists. As you can see, it’s like it’s super colorful. It’s not like your traditional Japan, but I think that’s the-
the kind of fun of it. It’s more like
an amusement park style of Japan. [Music] One game is 500 yen. And here we are, a Japanese matsuri – festival – style
shooting game called shateki. And Wolfy loves himself some shateki like no other. One thing though,
it was 500 yen per person for seven shots. Definitely a tourist spot price,
but to see my son smile and enjoy himself is priceless. And there we have it.
The trifecta of promises done and dusted. I can taste my future already! So, this was actually fun. We won quite a bit with this one. We are off to discover some new food. YGF Malatang. Ooh, that looks good. But that is not what we are looking for today. [Music] And after all the wait and living up to my promises, I’m now just a few minutes away! But I think we got to go
through this uh… colorful street? Feel like we are in the
red light district at the moment. As you can see,
there are hosts up on the wall, even there. [Music] Feel like I’m just hearing “square space.” “Square, square space!” More than 320 miles traveled
and I’ve finally arrived! Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me. Did everyone have
the same plan as me? Check out this line! How long it is,
just to get a sandwich! Two hours later. Okay, so instead of filming over there, it was like kind of a mess in that restaurant. Decided to head back to the hotel. Oh no, there is a baby crying over there. Hopefully we can get through this. The sandwiches we’ve been waiting for! Let’s see if it was worth waiting two freaking hours plus just to get these sandwiches! Okay, you might be wondering
where the steak sandwich came from. Well, I saw this one on the menu too and I couldn’t help myself, so I got both! Let me start with the steak sammy
and leave hopefully the best for last. Nice. It is still hot. Look at all of these pieces of steak. And it has these little red capers. Freaking a 2 hour sandwich! Been sweating out there for this. [Heartbeat intensifies] Mm. Alright. So, first thing: you taste the capers. The meat is actually juicy, but at the same time very, very meaty. So, it just doesn’t melt in your mouth. Very western style meat, I would say. Like regular sliced bread,
maybe buttered a little bit. They have a little bit of parsley on there, but, like, doesn’t have
like a 2-hour flavor if you’re- [laugh]
if you know what I’m talking about! It is a good sandwich though. Like you get pretty jaded
if you’re waiting two hours in line for something. It better be like the best meat
you’ve ever had in your life. Let me just take out
one of these pieces of meat. Now that I’m getting a second bite, I’m getting a lot of that flavor. Appreciate a little bit more salt and pepper and maybe a little bit of spice. At this point, that 2-hour wait in line
was obviously getting to me, but now for the main reason why I’m here – the fluffiest egg sandwich in Japan! Now, let’s try this guy. Woah! This just looks insane. This is like a full egg sandwich. It has Italian parsley. I got the yolk still, like, raring to go, not fully cooked, so it just looks so creamy. See if I can take a bite of this
without dripping everywhere. Oh my God. Wow. Woah, that’s so creamy. You can taste the mayonnaise. The eggs are diced up a little bit,
but you still get the whites of the egg and all that texture that’s been like chopped up. Not a fan of the Italian parsley but overall, like, the texture and the gooeyness is on point. That’s a good egg sandwich. This is the egg. It’s like a fluffy piece of shell. They just figured out a way to somehow fluff the egg. That was so soft! Wow! It’s like eating a marshmallow, cotton candy egg. This is a damn fine sandwich. And there you go – against all odds, through rivers, valleys, over mountains, treacherous lands, and even red light districts. With a little bit of prayer and through the hail of gunfire, I got to eat the fluffiest egg sandwich in Japan. But was it all worth it? Well, I’d say the journey for me
was more valuable than the destination. And, as for the 2-hour wait… Can’t wait very long for places,
but I would wait 15 minutes to get the sandwich.

I traveled 3 hours to Osaka just to eat the fluffiest egg sandwich in Japan. Along the way, I also stayed at a hotel built on top of a real Japanese temple in the heart of Osaka. It’s one of the most unique hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The Candeo Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi is built directly on top of a Japanese temple, right on Midosuji and surrounded by high-end fashion shops, with Shinsaibashi and Namba just a short walk away. If you’re visiting Osaka for the first time, this spot puts you right in the center of the city. It was the perfect place to call home base I as I made my way to the fluffiest egg sandwich in Japan. Imagine a sandwich stacked with perfectly cooked eggs, still soft and creamy in the center, diced whites for texture, and layered with mayonnaise for richness. It even comes topped with Italian parsley. The first bite is a surprise—gooey, delicate, and packed with flavor. The texture is so soft it feels like biting into marshmallow or cotton candy made out of eggs. This isn’t just a sandwich. It’s a food experience that takes something simple and turns it into something unforgettable.

  1. Paolo:"Look, this dish is famous and delicious, I'll travel a few hours to try it, ok?".
    Maiko:"And I took that personally!".

  2. going to japan in like 2 months and i'm still watching japan videos… cant wait!!! triple room looks cool!

  3. I liked this story telling mode of the video! I can see more of your personality 😀 Greetings from Mexico!

  4. He gets a sandwich and wife and boy gets extravagance? Paolo's negotiation skills need so much work

  5. Your son is growing fast. But please don't teach him how to chase egg sandwiches anymore.

  6. You can just bring them to America and put a real gun in his hand and teach him what being American is like and teach him how to shoot and teach him how to be proud to be an American

  7. You could tell that steak sandwich sucked😂 Even my jaw was getting tired seeing and hear him chew it. I wish he could stop being so nice and just say it.

  8. Got the steak sandwich yesterday. About a 45 minute wait when I showed up. Place is only open from 11 to 4. The sandwich I would rate as 6 out of 10.

  9. What a freakin' coincidence! I woke up this morning thinking about how I'd really like an egg salad sandwich today, and then I checked this video out. Mind you, the sandwich in Paolo's video was MUUUUUUUCH bigger and tastier-looking that the one I was thinking about. 😁 Now I gotta find a deli around here that will make one like that.

  10. One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to eat, but I can 100% agree that when I get to see the joy that my children experience with our travels makes it all so much more worthwhile. Great video. Yet another place I'll have to visit.

  11. I love your opening on this video with you scrolling on IG while in the bathroom Great hook!!

  12. I really like the change up of the style of the video to be more story driven! Love seeing you grow and try new things while being authentic to yourself!

  13. Yo Paolo, Next time you’re in Osaka, join one of my Meetup events. It’s a rare opportunity to meet and talk to locals in English. Locals join this event because they like speaking English and meeting foreigners.

  14. Kind of ironic how he doesn’t like tourists areas but then creates videos from time to time that motivate tourists to visit japan.

  15. The restaurant certainly seems to advertise well on Instagram and other social media, judging by the international clientele queuing up outside. And I wouldn't have expected Paolo not to praise a steak sandwich to the skies😄
