Uganda will celebrate its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan on October 8, 2025, with a series of events aimed at promoting trade, investment, and cultural exchange between Uganda and Japan.
The celebrations will feature business forums, cultural showcases, and diplomatic engagements that highlight Uganda’s economic potential and commitment to international cooperation.
Expo 2025, which runs from April to October 13, 2025, is being held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Uganda’s Pavilion, located in Commons A, has been open since the start of the Expo, showcasing the country’s transformation agenda focused on industrialization, exports, and investment, while also promoting its tourism and cultural diversity.
Uganda’s delegation to Japan will be led by the Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda, and will include senior government officials, diplomats, and representatives from the private sector. Coordination of Uganda’s participation is being handled by the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority (UFZEPA) in partnership with the Embassy of Uganda in Japan.
Ahead of the National Day, the delegation is expected to meet with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry on October 7, 2025, to discuss trade and investment opportunities and foster business-to-business partnerships.
The National Day celebrations will take place at the National Day Hall on October 8, featuring an address by Prime Minister Nabbanja and remarks from the Japanese side. The event will include cultural performances offering visitors a glimpse into Uganda’s artistic and traditional heritage, followed by a tour of both the Uganda and Japan pavilions.
The celebrations will conclude with a dinner at the Expo Guest House, providing a networking opportunity for Ugandan and Japanese business representatives and officials.
Following the Expo events, Prime Minister Nabbanja is scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister of Japan in Tokyo on October 9, 2025, for a bilateral discussion expected to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, and development.
Uganda’s participation in Expo 2025 is guided by the sub-theme “Empowering Lives,” which aligns with the country’s long-term development framework Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV) emphasizing inclusive and sustainable economic growth through innovation, trade, and industrialization.
According to Mr. Hez Kimoomi Alinda, Executive Director of UFZEPA, Expo 2025 offers Uganda a strategic platform to connect with global partners. “Through National Day, Uganda will highlight its development priorities, share its cultural heritage, and demonstrate its readiness to work with partners to achieve mutual growth and prosperity,” he said.
Uganda’s National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka is expected to serve both as a celebration of national identity and a platform for strengthening partnerships that advance the country’s goal of becoming a competitive, export-led economy.
