our first time in fukuoka

Goooooood morning everyone! We’ve just landed in Osaka This is Devon’s first time in Japan – we’ve been looking forward to this trip all year First stop: Ekiben Let’s grab something for the Shinkansen~ We are on our way to Fukuoka where we plan to spend our first few days It is 3 hours by Shinkansen from Shin Osaka Station Our first meal in Japan! EKIBEN WOOOOOO “Wow it is exactly the same” I chose a crab and ikura ekiben And Devon got salmon and mackerel They look better than they taste, but we are hungry from the long flight so it will suffice It is the first week of September, which is still very hot Which means many cold drinks and desserts to enjoy~ Our first stop in Fukuoka is the local specialty: Hakata ramen We ordered our ramen via the machine 😮 “Nice cup, looks like beer” “But its actually oolong tea” “KANPAI” Hakata ramen is usually topped with chashu slices, jammy egg and spring onions Itadakimasu~ A yummy and satisfying meal for under $10 each 🙂 Grabbing a conbini snack after dinner is a must in Japan “Mitarashi dango” ”Dumplings and sauce” ”Mochi” Devon is amazed by the low alcohol prices Our accommodation is a 15 minute walk from Hakata station It’s small but the wood accents and warm lighting make it feel nice and cosy The staff speak English and there’s a laundry downstairs For about AUD150 per night, it’s pretty nice! “Devon’s drank” “My drank” ”And muscat grape mochi” Gooood stuff 🙂 Ohayou gozaimasu minna sannnn The weather forecast says it will be clear and sunny all day Devon and I are walking to Nagahama Fish market Hoping to have some sushi for lunch Oooh my goodness summer in Japan is sooooooo hot :’) When you need dashi for miso soup but all the shops are closed This bakery that I have been wanting to try is on the way to the fish market So of course we stopped by Mentai is a Hakata specialty *decision paralysis but big excite* “Overwhelmed” “So much stuff” The “pains” are small so we are getting three to try Now we are ready to continue walking to the fish market Turns out the actual fish market is not open to the public But there is a large building next door with a fish-themed gallery And seafood restaurants scattered throughout the ground floor It seems like the locals come here for lunch Let’s have some sushi as planned! Our Japanese is rusty We do indeed want some of that fatty tuna We really like the ama ebi (sweet prawn) and otoro (fatty tuna) Devon also likes trying weird mystery fish There is an observatory on the top floor Hello Fukuoka! Hello fish! There are many realistic fish mummies here Next on our list is Fukuoka Castle Ruins and Ohori Park The main section of the ruins are closed for maintenance today But luckily the observation deck area is open What is this? A baseball field? “Now we are going to go up” ”And then we are going to go around to the Art Museum” “Hopefully there is some shade there because it is so hot” ”Some aircon” Have we mentioned that it is so hot here? “National geographic” “They’re not making the (cicada) sounds” “I think they’re just the shells that were shedded” The summer heat is wild but luckily there are drinks everywhere Almost inside an air conditioned room! We’re not allowed to film in the museum so here are some photos of our favourite pieces Meet the wildlife of Ohori Park There’s a cafe I want to check out before crossing the lake Let’s have a small break *and snack* here The kakigori looks perfect for this 33 degree day The cafe has large windows that look out over the lake Outside the cafe people go about their day, with the windchimes and trees swaying in the wind We ordered the yame matcha kakigori and a dashimaki sando We shall not waste a single drop of matcha This dashimaki sando is the best thing I have eaten so far There is also a small shop inside the cafe that sells local tea and condiments Time to explore the park! Ohori Park is made up of a large lake with three small islands The three islands are connected by bridges So you can walk all the way to the other side of the lake It sounds pretty windy but it’s actually such a peaceful place There are many resting spots with nice lake views Birbs of Japan~ “There are two turtles” “Hello turtle” “And hello fish” “They are following each other :D” “Sniff sniff sniff” “Don’t bump into the fish~“ “So cute :)” “Goodbye turtle” “Oh he turned around he is coming back!” We too are heading back to look for Tenjin Underground Mall We couldnt find the Tenjin underground mall so here we are The inside looks newly renovated and very stylish There are lots of cute kitchenware that I’d love to bring home “Sweet potato butter” “And this bread plate that prevents the bread from getting soggy” “Cute lamp” The plants in this store are so healthy and vibrant “The leaves of the plant are the same colour as the pot” “It’s so cute T_T” And expensive After lots of window shopping, we need a sit and drink Devon and I often like to share a drink But many cafes here have a 1 drink per person policy So we got a kurogoma latte and a blueberry soda For dinner we are trying a Fukuoka specialty Mentai~!!! WOW We got a mentai box with pickles, and mentai tsukemen This is dashi to mix with the tsukemen sauce after finishing the noodles Which makes a light soup to finish the meal Meanwhile in the streets of Fukuoka… Any evangelion fans? Hello cat, are you okay? :’D

We’re in Fukuoka for the first time, ready to have some fuk-ing fun times!

  1. honestly not bad – i thought i was watching some big YouTuber but you guys are young! keep up the good work – love some of the shots you guys took too. not sure some of the shots left in LOG was on purpose or forgot to grade them but they definitely stood out haha. My only critique was wasnt the biggest fan when you were wobbling the item you guys were holding but thats just own personal preference as i was looking at it from a videography eye 🙂
