You don’t have be a yūrei devotee to know that some of the enduring and most ethereal spirits hail from Japan.

Stories, legends, movies, games, and graphic novels find fanciful and dramatic inspiration in these otherworldly beings, and you can find some of those captivating works by browsing the superb shops of Little Tokyo during any month of the year.

But when late October arrives, the lore of the location grows stronger and more bewitching courtesy of a couple of celebrations, seasonal sights, and ghost tours that peer into the supernatural side of Little Tokyo.

The name of the annual festivities? It’s Haunted Little Tokyo, and it is floating back into the area on select October dates.

First up, on Oct. 18, are the ghost tours; they’re $25 and you’ll need to buy your ticket in advance, because spots will sell out.

The frightfully festive focus of the experience will be 1st Street, so come prepared to know a bit more about the vibrant block, including those visitors who’ve come to stay.

Then the following Saturday, two big Little Tokyo happenings will take place: A scavenger hunt for families during the afternoon (you’ll start at Terasaki Budokan) and a block party for revelers who are 21 and older in the evening.

That’s Oct. 25, and keep in mind that you’ll need to register in advance for the block party (that’s when the location and details will be revealed).

Costumes for both the sunny scavenger hunt and the moonlit merriment for adults are very much encouraged.

And if you’re a gamer and fancy the world of “Silent Hill,” you may find eerily unsettling odes to the new “Silent Hill f” game around Little Tokyo through Oct. 19.

Photo spots, themed drinks and bites at local restaurants, and sound elements at the Little Tokyo/Arts District Station will draw Little Tokyo visitors in the realm of the game.
