More than 1,400 guests at a hotel in the Japanese city of Kyoto have been evacuated due to a fire in which a mobile battery was burned. No one was injured.

The Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo made an emergency call early Monday morning, saying that a fire broke out in a second-floor guestroom.

Police and fire department officials say hotel staff quickly extinguished it. A mobile battery a guest had been charging and part of a desk were burned.

About 1,400 out of some 2,000 people who were staying at the hotel were evacuated.

The 10-story hotel with two basement floors is located in front of Kyoto Station.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
