Heavy rains have triggered flooding and landslides in Nepal and India, killing dozens.

The downpours have hit wide areas of Nepal, including Kathmandu, since Friday.

The country’s disaster authorities say at least 46 people were killed and 20 injured. Many are also reportedly missing.

Search and rescue efforts are underway. But the work has been hampered as roads and houses have been inundated and bridges swept away.

The Nepali government is calling on residents to evacuate as river water levels may continue to rise.

Heavy rain also pounded neighboring India.

Local media say landslides and other disasters killed at least 20 people in Darjeeling, in the state of West Bengal.
