Cycling Around Sakurajima – One of Japan’s Most Active Volcanoes

[Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Welcome to Sakurajima. This is Japan’s most active volcano and we doing a day trip here. We got the ferry over this morning and this is a great first spot this bakery. Um so many delicious things. So we’re going to have something delicious to eat and then do a tour around the whole island. We’re starting somewhere around here and they said please go this way by 38 km and it takes well 3 to 5 hours depending on how fast you cycle. Um, and I really look forward to a foot bath at the end. Join us on a cycle around Sakurajima, a volcanic island next to Kagoshima City in Kyushu. Having seen this majestic volcano from the city, we couldn’t resist to hop on a ferry and rent gravel bikes for the day to explore the island.

The cycle was mostly easy and can be done in 3-5 hours, depending on your speed and sightseeing stops. However, there were also a few challenging climbs.

It was fascinating to learn about the last big eruption, which almost completely covered a torii gate, to take in the stunning sea views and volcano views, and to follow a lava trail. Our biggest highlight was the incredible free foot bath with views over Kagoshima City.

This was probably one of the most unique and memorable bike rides that we have done so far! This is a great and easy day trip from Kagoshima.
