Summer Hokkaido Travel Vlog #3 – Day 5, Noboribetsu Part 1

[Music] [Music] So over [Music] you so [Music] [Music] Are you hot, Changh? I mean, it has been a hot mess last couple of days, hasn’t it? Just fitting that we would go and feel like a hot mess. [Music] What’s the sign say about what is up or down? Because we got up, we got down. I don’t know. They got different courses. So, this one is 568 meters takes 10 minutes. This one is 298, takes 10 minutes. This one 308, 7 minutes. 4:44, 10 minutes. Longest one is this one. It takes five or 20 minutes. Need to visit seven times here to finish all I want to see those ones. The dean ones. Where’s that one at? Welcome. Is it on the thing? Where is it? Oh, here. Oh, that’s not on any of the paths. Welcome. Welcome. Yeah, it’s here. But it’s not really on any of the paths. Yes. Yes. You need to go down and then more like So, actually, you got to take multiple paths really. You need to go this and then go to Yeah. Yeah. [Music] I mean, we could do this. The blue one is 10 minutes. Or this one is. Yeah, we could do the blue one. And then this one left. We going to get lost. We going to get lost as hell. Go down and then Okay. So, how do you go to blue one? Are you sure? Because it says we are here and it says you have to like go around to get to that way. I’m hearing things in the woods that are freaking me out. I don’t know. Did you want to go down there? Not really. Okay, fair enough. You you that that was a no answer. Let’s be honest. Anyway, you can see that here from here to there to climb. Yeah, it seems like there’s climbing no matter where you go. Everything is very hiky. Oh, this is good for our breath. I mean, it is sulfuric, so I don’t know. [Music] Let’s climb this mess. That Korean guy being basically over it like let’s go get think he was thoroughly over it too. I like it. I like a hike as long as the hike isn’t too long. The only thing I don’t like this one is it’s up and down and up and down and up and down. Like up is fine. Down is fine. Up, down, up, down, up, down. I could do without. Oh my god. [Music] I used to explore round and round around and up and down. Left and right. BA select start. [Music] I think Chonho’s getting delirious, huh? I ate too much for lunch. Meanwhile, I probably didn’t eat enough for lunch. But to be fair, we pretty much missed the last two days of our trip because I was deeply ill. And so my stomach and my body has been just rejecting any liquids or foods. So we’re taking it one step at a time until I can feel pseudo normal again. And if that means I just have a little tiny piece of bread, so be it. I already feel like I overdid breakfast this morning. Oh, they have a lookout spot. Yes. Oh my god. Such a good look for you. I want to take your photo. Hold on. All right, we took the pictures. Now we continue on the journey. [Music] I’m [Music] [Music] How how deep is the oama? I’m going to say B. I got it wrong. Oh, wait. No, I didn’t get it wrong. It’s saying you have to go to the next one to find the answer. [Music] I guessed B. Uh it uh son. Okay. All right. Let’s see who’s right. If we notice the next one, cuz I didn’t even see the first one. Oh, this one goes way up. She’s not joking. She got a handrail. You know it’s rough. You know what’s rough. Oh, there’s stairs. [Music] Oh, here it is. Answer here. 22. I got it right. Next one. What’s it say? [Music] Aayun Numa from Au Portoyu is a very rare crater lake in the world with abundant grayish black hot water. Now for the question, what kind of mineral does ou Numa contain? Sulfur. Easy. Number one. I say three. Iron, lead, or sulfur? What’s sulfur? Sulfur is that rotten egg smell. Uh, sulfur. Yeah. Well, we’ll see. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am. But we’ll see. Let’s see where we’re at now. Where’s them dumb welcome demon things? I don’t see them on this map. Oh, they’re here. They’re here. And we are now here. Oh my god, we’re so far away. But it says if we keep following it to the foot bath, foot bath is like right here. And then the demon things are up here. So if we keep going to the foot bath, yep, we should make it. [Music] Oh yeah, you’re missing it. Eagle answer. Sulfur. Yes. Next question. There are several hollowos in the bottom of u nama or oua from which poisonous gas such as hydrogen sulfide is spouting. Now here’s the question. What is the bottom temperature of this lake? 90 about 90 Celsius. About 110 Celsius. About 130 Celsius. I’m going to say C or three. 130. It’s my guess. 90. Okay. You say 90. I say 130. Let’s find out. [Music] Answer [Music] three. Three. I was right again. All right. Next question. Yeah. About 300 tons of sulfur sediment a month would often be gathered from the bottom of Olu Numa by boat. Now, here’s the question. What do you think the surface temperature? What is the surface temperature of Oun Numa? I think we’ll see. Yeah. Or three about 90. But we’ll see. [Music] All right. Answer 50. was one 50° question. There there growing crowds various kinds of precious plants such as mizunara, a kind of oak, casta arelia, panacle hydrogen something around oama, the whole area of which has been designated a natural monument called evil forest for a long time. When was it designated a monument? I’m going to say 1924. What do you think? So, it says there grow a crowd of various kinds of precious plants such as mizunara, a kind of oak. Okay. He didn’t even listen to the question, but he says 1880. All right. Let’s see if he’s right. I say 1924. I don’t blame him, though. The view up here is wonderful. Hold on. Oh my gosh. It is. Wow. That’s crazy. You can even see the smoke from the side of the mountain. That’s wild. Wow. All right. Well, let’s get a picture, too, though. [Music] [Music] 1924. I was right. Next one. Now this is the last question. Mount Hioriori which is next to Oun Numa is still active with smoke rising. Mount Hioriori was named as such i.e. Mount Weather for a certain fisherman’s weather forecast when he saw smoke rising from it. Now for the question, what do you think the weather will be like when the smoke is seen much? So lots of smoke. Uh going to be fine. I think it’s going to be bad. It’s my guess be or two. So your guess one, my guess two. [Music] [Music] I said you were right. What? What am I right about? It’s going to be bad. Oh, I was right. Yes. So, if there’s lots of smoke, the weather is supposed to be bad. I was correct. [Music] Are you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Be careful. Really slidy. Maybe I’ll look down here. I’ll check down here. Yeah, this is slightly better. What’s happen? Well, we had a lovely foot bath. Now we’re going to the demon thing. Demon time. I hope this the right way. [Music] Oh, that’s the tour bus. Why? You want to hop on the little baby tour bus? I just got hit in the face by a bug. Which way from here? Okay. You want to go? Yeah. What? We leaving now. Oh. Oh, yeah. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Well, there it is. Oh, yeah. Yeah. We don’t want to go to the bus necessarily. The Hell Valley. We can go back to main street, huh? Oh, I don’t know. Maybe. Oh, this is foot entrance. And to think we could have just taken the tour bus right to do that whole hike. Sure. Yeah. We don’t necessarily It was worth it. For our body, for our health, this is best thing of the day. China’s favorite thing of the day is not having to walk anymore. I mean, fair. Oh, maybe. Yeah, might as well. Is there some stuff here? Main Street. There’s We can go there now if you want. [Music] Okay, Tono. I don’t know who this cat is, but I need all of his stuff. I need all this stuff. You’re no fun. We’re coming back here. I’m buying a bunch of that stuff. Just be aware. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I need you to get me out of that shop before that lady gets me to buy her $55 tea. She just handed me tea. She’s like, “Here for you. Where are you from?” She’s like, “Today’s special 5,500 yen.” I was like, “Bitch, that’s $55 tea.” Okay, [Music] we should go. Let’s get Let’s get kaki. I don’t care. Annie, let’s go. [Music] [Music] Okay, this place is amazing. So they gave or so we got uh what was it? Cockiori and I got a iced coffee. Then they brought us tea and rusk cookies, like cracker things as service. Then we went to pay. Um I decided to get a piece of melon bread and Changho wanted some Hkaido milk and another piece of bread. And then they give us two more pieces of bread as service. Oh my god, they’re so diceed. Really? We have to go back there again. Yeah, plus their [ __ ] was really good. So cute, isn’t it? Oh my god. People give him money. That looks smart. Yeah, cuz he looks like he’ll [ __ ] you up if you don’t give him money. Are you going to give him money? John was gonna give him money, too. John looks scared. You going to bite your finger? I think I’ll if you want to go in. I don’t know. I’m not sure. Not sure. Okay. Yeah, they’re they’re open pretty late. Let’s see. Okay, let’s go. I am going to make it a general thing that I do not film when we go in a shop because it’s so weird to me. I never really get when people do that. Oh, we’re going in another shop. Okay. What was what? I don’t remember what I bought. I don’t know. What I remember? We bought a thing. What is this? So, how much did you spend again? 4,000 780. I spent 5,725. You want to go to another shop? Oh god. Okay, we’re going to another shop. Those are freaking cute. So, what’ you spend in there? That last one. Last one. 4,000. 4,000. 4,200 268. I blame 2,200 on me because of seeing the stupid Mong Chi-Chi that were freaking cute. He bought the mint colored one. It was 22 bucks. I wanted one, but the big ones too, they were like over 40 bucks. And so I was like, maybe not. Extra large. The sales guy retron fil. He’s like large or extra large guys. Like oh extra large. Like that’s so huge. All right, we are going to dinner. I mean it does look Yeah, it does look bad. This menu is giving me that American vibe where like the menu has too many choices. Oh, that one’s sold out. You want yaki soba? I think I’m going to do this one. I want this one. [Music] I think I want this one. But I want to look at the rest first. Oh, grilled squid. That is right up your alley. The grilled corn, too. Maybe this too because it’s only 450. Oh, wait. Did I Oh. Oh, a butter butter skin shellfish. Kimchi probably tastes like sugar. Just be warned. Poor Spanish octopus. [Music] Okay. You want to talk? club. Um, yeah. Hi. Hi. Yeah, that way we can share some if you want. I don’t know. Get it if you want. Did you get nothing to drink? No water. Oh, he’s hydrating. So, I got the eel bowl over rice and the corn, the grilled corn, which is supposed to be really good in Hokkaido, and a lemon sour. Chanho got the shrimp karaj, like fried shrimp and um what was your main? Oh, yaki soba. No, spicy curry. Oh, spicy seafood curry. Yeah, cheese. Seafood curry. Cheese is super cool. And then kimchi. Kimchi. Kimchi. This is my favorite thing, by the way, about summer in Japan is lemon sour. It’s going to try it. It’s good. It’s very refreshing. I need to try kimchi has arrived. I will tell you it does look better than the kimchi I’ve had in Japan before. So hopefully it is. We’ll see what is your reaction to it. I’m excited. I love how he’s taking the tiniest little bit. Tiniest piece. Is it actually good? I started good then I went on a journey. It’s good. It’s spicy at the same time. Okay, I got vinegar. Vinegar. That’s good. Let me try. That’s good. All right. Eat the tak. You’re spicy. I like it. Not bad. Yeah, I like it. All right. Corn. It looks so yum. So charred. Looks gum. Fried shrimp has arrived. Corn is really good, but it’s also very hot. Uh, you should probably squeeze the lemon on top. Probably tastes better that way. Let’s try it. M. That’s really good. I’m going to try the corn again. See if it’s cooled down more cuz it was steaming before. Still steaming. Okay, my man just came. It’s the unangiong. Oh, that looks so freaking good. Looks so big. That looks yummy. Okay, I’m going to go eat that and destroy it right now. So, all right, we’re back from dinner. I’m back in the room and I’m lazy and I’m not going to do a room tour because nobody really cares anyway, let’s be honest. Uh but um Chanho, what do you think? Rating out of 10 for dinner. Yes. Dinner rating out of 10. Chino Chino was 9 three. 9.3. I would even go a little bit higher. I was going to say 9.6. It was very good. But it’s not like the best meal I’ve ever had. So like got to leave room. But for what it was, it was a damn good meal. So, so good. But I would say like 9.6. For what it was, if you’re saying generally overall amongst all foods in the world, I would say probably like 8.5. I can put But for what it is, 9.6. So happy. So happy cuz he bought a $200 backpack. But it’s really cute. So, and it’s really functional and good and nice and nice brand that you can only buy in Hokkaido. So, it’s not okay. Changho, we’ll do Chongho first. Changho, show us what you bought today. What’s your haul? Yeah. I love that bag. It’s the cutest bag I’ve ever seen in my life. Yes. Yes. Love her. And I t-shirt. These places, by the way, wrap up everything. Oh, let’s look closely. Oh, so cute. [Music] So, what is Joku for the people that don’t know? Hell, hell. It’s like their hot natural hot springs, but like it’s like hot. It’s natural hot spring themed. Like hell this one. Oops. I didn’t know I didn’t. He’s making joke cuz he opened that one earlier and he’s like, I’ll just pretend like I didn’t know. So cute. It is cute. It’s It’s damn cute. I love it. So cute. There’s more, too. Right. Yeah. I didn’t see the bottom part. Flip it around. Flipper. There’s like a the Oh my god. So big. I’m looking at the back of it. This is the This is the uh high ranked like demon god. Emperor. Emperor. Oh, emperor. Emperor like you the hell emperor or just the emperor like human. He also he can choose like you can heo also he can do like a make revival too. Oh, it’s a really popular purple. It’s so cute. So cute. This one was like I love the bear. They’re so cute. That’s why I bought damn cute. This is why I bought this. So cute. Oh my god. My color. Cho can’t stop himself from buying cute towels. Yeah. Yes. Yes. So how many cute towels you got now? So good. So many. This is my favorite. H. So cute. What else you got? This one. Mhm. I think it’s a hair together. Oh my god. So cute. This is like You got to move the thing. Pieces together. So freaking cute. So cute. It’s like little matchy kitty keychains. Oh, it’s so cute. So cute. So damn cute. Yeah. Oh my god. So damn cute. They’re best friends. [Music] What else? Let’s see. This one is a cute This one. I don’t know if it’ll show up because of the plastic, but let me try. Oh, yeah. It kind of showed up. It’s so cute. This something. It’s so cute. Babies in the onset. Like this. This one is mchi. That’s one of the mochi chi that I saw and he and I was like, I’m not going to look at the price because then I’ll buy one. And he’s like, how much they cost? And then he found out that one was 2,200 which is like 22 bucks. And he’s like, I’m buying it. Show this is so freaking cute. So cute. This mici is like his signature color, so that’s why he likes it. He don’t even like Mong Chi-Chi, but he likes this color. Yeah, this is so cute. I kept this this on my new bag. Oh, yeah. And and his new bag. New bag. That was the most expensive one, but I think it was worth It’s a good quality bag. Really? Let’s see what you got. All right. First, I got this Sandio pouch. Oh, so cute. It’s freaking cute. And then look at the back. It’s even got on the back. How uh see more like Oh, I can’t cuz it’s still got Oh, this one. Yeah. Oh, that’s so cute. I know. It’s freaking cute. Got all of them at the Onen Town. It’s freaking cute. What is this next? And then I got this sort of to go with it cuz I saw this too and I was like, “This is freaking cute, too.” I got this Chrommy. Are you showing on the video? Is it showing up? Is Chrommy Hokkaido pen? Oh, it’s so cute. And it’s got the fields that I didn’t get to visit in BA cuz I was ill. Oh my god. Like shady. She do shade. She like We love that for her. She’s so shady. Which I hope they’ll fit. But um I’ve been trying to find these like traditional Japanese gheta sandals in a size that would fit my big hooves. And even on big size websites for out of Japan, I could never find them bigger than a Japanese size like 2L or 3 L. And I have bought them before at in the 2L, I think, and they did not fit to me. They didn’t even come close. Today I saw these ones and they were 4 L and I hope they will fit me, but I don’t know for sure that they will. Mind you, we did buy some other stuff before, but um I already forgot what it was, but we’ll see. We remember later. How do you feel about going to or cleaning this crap up and going to take a bath and relax cuz I’m tired. What time is it? 7:18. It feels later than that even. But I’ve had a headache all day. So maybe that’s why. So I think we’re going to go to the onsen. Technically, we can use the one attached or next across from this hotel cuz like this we’re staying at a smaller inn that’s owned by the same people that own the big bougie in across the street. And technically we could go use the big bougie onen. But I think I’m just going to use the littleer one here tonight cuz it’s like in the same building. And I have a feeling that not many people go and use that one. Because why would they? They can go across the street to the big bougie expensive nice one. So, we’ll see. Maybe if we go to the big or the little one downstairs and if it’s like full of [ __ ] maybe we’ll go to the one across the street. But we’ll see. All right, I’m going to go now. H. We took a bath. Chong Paul, how did you like your bath? It’s fine. It’s fine. I do. You don’t have to rate the bath. Four out of 10. He’s like four out of 10. It did seem. So, we’re staying at a place called Adex, which is like one of the cheaper hotels to stay at here because most of them are really expensive. Um, but uh this one is owned by the same people that own one of the big expensive ones and right across the street. And so technically we could go use the onen at the big expensive one. But I had this genius idea that I was like, you know, most people are just going to go use the big expensive one, which means the small onen they have here nobody will be using. And we are mostly correct. And we went there and the only person that was there was a little a little kid who I think was probably Chinese. Um just cuz he was by himself and like most Japanese parents take their kids with them to onen but he was by himself. Um and he was only there for what like five minutes, five or 10 minutes and then we had the whole thing to oursel the whole time. But it did sort of give a vibe like we could be murdered. But I like that. So, it’s like a 7.5 out of 10 for me. Changho, not so much. Right, Chong-ho? Four out of 10. Correct. Four out of 10 for him cuz he didn’t like the sensation that he could get murdered. I find it exhilarating. So, uh, I’m probably gonna chill here and have a snack from the dessert place we went to earlier today and read a book and go to sleep. What you going to do, Chan-ho? Watch TV. Watch TV. Japanese TV. Yes. Yeah. Chanho been practicing his Japanese by watching Japanese TV. He’s much better than he gives himself credit for. Anyway, that’s going to be it for today. Later. [Music]

In this vlog series, we’ll be visiting Hokkaido for 10 nights (August 12-22, 2025). We’ll be stopping in Sapporo, Asahikawa, Noboribetsu, Otaru, and then spending some more time in Sapporo.

In the third vlog, we spent the fourth day in Noboribetsu after having a rough (and not vlogged) 3rd and 4th days in Asahikawa, as I got very ill. But we loved our time in Noboribetsu and spent it visiting the Jigoku Dani (Hell Valley), a lovely outdoor foot bath, and the shopping street in town.
