Ikebukuro Station Walking Tour | Tokyo Travel Guide
Discover how to navigate one of Tokyo’s busiest and most complex transportation hubs
with our detailed walking tour of Ikebukuro Station. This guide is designed for first-time visitors to Japan, helping you understand
the station’s layout to save valuable travel time. We will walk you through the three main underground passages—the North, Central, and South
corridors—which are the key to finding your way. Learn how to locate the correct exits and transfer smoothly between the many train lines,
including the JR Yamanote Line, Seibu Ikebukuro Line, Tobu Tojo Line, and the Tokyo Metro lines. For your convenience, this video includes on-screen QR codes. You can scan them to open Google Maps of the station on your device
or to download official railway line maps as PDFs. With this guide, you can confidently explore Ikebukuro and the rest of Tokyo. The “Ikefukuro” is a stone owl statue located at the East Exit of Ikebukuro Station, and it’s a popular meeting spot. Its name is a wordplay combining “Ikebukuro” and “fukuro,” the Japanese word for owl. The passageway we are currently walking through is the “North Passage.” You can add money to your SUICA card balance at green or pink ticket vending machines. If you’re heading to Shinjuku Station or Shibuya Station, take the Yamanote Line train from platforms 5 or 6. Scanning this QR code will take you to a website where you can download a PDF of the JR East route map. You can get to Kawagoe using the Tobu Tojo Line. Kawagoe is a tourist destination nicknamed “Koedo” (Little Edo) where the historical merchant townscape with its traditional warehouses remains. Ikechika Dining offers Thai food, sushi, soba, spaghetti, and cafes. We’re walking west along Central Passage. Many Fukutoshin Line trains run directly through to the Tokyu Toyoko Line and the Minatomirai Line. If you are heading to Daikanyama, Nakameguro, or Yokohama, please board from here. We’re walking east along the Central Passage. If you’re heading to Tokyo Station, the Marunouchi Line will get you there faster than the Yamanote Line. The JR Midori-no-madoguchi (ticket office) is used to purchase, refund, and make changes to Shinkansen (bullet train) tickets, express train tickets, and regular train tickets. We turned around in the central passage. We continue walking down the central passage. If you’re heading to Yurakucho Station, the Yurakucho Line will get you there faster than the Yamanote Line. To go to Ginza, please use the Marunouchi Line. To go to The Making of Harry Potter – Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, please use the Seibu Ikebukuro Line and get off at Toshimaen Station. We’re walking west along the South Passage.
