Fifteen people have been hospitalized with injuries after a pleasure boat crashed into a quay at Numazu Port in central Japan.

An employee of the boat operator made an emergency call on Sunday afternoon to report the collision at the port in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

The Coast Guard and the local fire department say 14 passengers and one crewmember were injured and were taken to hospital. Officials say two of them are unable to walk, but all 15 are conscious.

The boat operator, Chidori Kanko Kisen, says the vessel was carrying 38 passengers and two crewmembers when the collision occurred. The firm says the boat regularly called at the port.
