Maruyama Zoo, located in Sapporo, Hokkaido, opened on May 5, 1951, and is the oldest zoo in Hokkaido. Spanning approximately 22.5 hectares within Maruyama Park, the facility houses around 900 animals from 168 species. The zoo is recognized for its initiatives to establish natural habitats, including a 2-hectare “Zoo Forest” that connects to the surrounding primeval forest.
