TOKYO: The Osaka-Kansai Expo will close on October 13 and will have a full program of events in its final days, including a look ahead to the Expo in Riyadh in 2030, the organizers announced.
On October 10, there will be a talk titled, “Expos in a New Era and the Significance of Theme Weeks,” which will feature Ridha Shaikh, the Chief Officer of International Participants & Stakeholder Management at Expo 2030 Riyadh Company.
He will be joined by Dr. Tarek Oliveira Shayya, the former Executive Vice Chairman of Expo 2020 Dubai, and Dr. HASHIZUME Shinya, the Theme Week Supervisor for the Osaka Expo.
The talk will include a look at the impact of Theme Weeks, which were introduced at the Dubai Expo, and look ahead to how Expos “can serve as platforms for meaningful exchange and collective action in a rapidly changing world.”
The event will be live-streamed.
The Bureau International des Expositions will host BIE Day on October 12 to celebrate the World Expo, as it draws to a close and to commemorate the achievements it has made.
The official ceremony will feature speeches by BIE and Japanese officials, as well as cultural performances from the organizers of Expo 2027 Belgrade and Expo 2030 Riyadh.
The event will also include the Official Participant Awards when the recipients of the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 Awards will be announced, and will also include the attribution of BIE Medals, celebrating all those who have made major contributions to the success of the World Expo.
The Closing Ceremony will take place on October 13 at 2 p.m. and will also be live streamed on the official Expo YouTube channel. This will be followed by a Flag Parade to end the Expo.
