Japan Scenic Drive 4K | Kumamoto City to Mt. Aso Thru Aso Panorama Line

This drive takes you from Central Kumamoto City to Nakadake Creter No.1 on Mt. Aso.
Mt. Aso is an active volcano located at the center of Kyushu Island, Japan.
It boasts the second-largest caldera in Japan after the Kussharo Caldera in Hokkaido.
The caldera is a massive 25 km from north to south and 18 km from east to west.
Interestingly, two railway lines run through it: the JR Hohi Main Line in the north and the Minami Aso Railway Takamori Line in the south.

The Aso Panorama Line is a breathtaking scenic byway that connects the caldera floor to the Sanjo Terminal.
From there, the Asosan Koen Road continues up to the Nakadake Crater.
When volcanic activity is calm, this route allows tourists to get up close to the crater, which emits steam.

Instead of the main National Route 57 connecting Kumamoto City to the Aso area,
we drive on Prefectural Roads 103 and 145, offering beautiful views of summer rice fields as we approach the Aso Caldera.
