Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced that the Minister approved, under the Local Tax Act, changes to Kyoto City’s accommodation tax in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
The accommodation tax per person per night will be: under 6,000 yen: 200 yen; 6,000 yen to less than 20,000 yen: 400 yen; 20,000 yen to less than 50,000 yen: 1,000 yen; 50,000 yen to less than 100,000 yen: 4,000 yen; 100,000 yen or more: 10,000 yen.
Estimated revenue is about 12.6 billion yen, and estimated tax collection costs are about 500 million yen. Participants in school trips, as well as participants in events held by certified kodomoen (integrated childcare and education centers) and nursery schools, will be exempt. The ordinance is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2026.
