A Refreshing Summer Trip to #Kyoto | Kifune, Nagashi Somen, Otagi Nenbutsu Ji & Arashiyama
Hi everyone! Today we are off to Kyoto for a weekend summer trip We’re heading to Kibune to try nagashi somen and enjoy some summer moments this trip has been on my list for a while Taking the Eizan line to get there The final bus ride finally arrived! Kibune is a tiny riverside area hidden in Kyoto’s northern mountains even though it’s mid-August, it feels so cool and refreshing here the restaurant I want to try is at the top of the hill, so I’ll go there first to get a spot but there are also many riverside restaurants along the way, lit up with lanterns it’s a bit after 11, and there’s already a queue luckily, it’s not going too slow after getting a spot, we’ll also visit Kifune Shrine they told me to come back in about 3 hours with the number on this fan so let’s look around the town the town is getting crowded it seems hard to come by car and find parking I came here two years ago with one of my Japanese friends it was autumn then and I wanted to see it in summer too let’s head up Tanabata wish trees still remain so many wishes written here this year I made many wishes as well and I want to leave one here too the tanzaku (wish papers) are here I like writing my wishes with lots of detail let’s find a nice spot for my wish now let’s get an omikuji (fortune paper) this omikuji reveals the writing when placed in water let’s see what it says the letters are starting to appear you can read the English translation from the QR code I grabbed this from the vending machine and will take a short break let’s continue the way I will get a snack from the shop ahead picked up a strawberry with ice cream inside very cold but nice the koi fish here! hello fishes! the sacred katsura tree said to be over 400 years old its branches symbolize divine power reaching to the sky Izumi Shikibu poetry monument a heian era poet known for her love poems now it’s nagashi somen time! putting feet in the water is not allowed but even watching feels refreshing I will eat right in front of this view starting with tea and a sweet the noodles flow through these bamboo pipes they will start flowing soon each guest has a separate slot to catch them I caught it! tastes cool and refreshing this pink noodle means it’s the last one feeling happy and full it really seems better to come here by foot instead of by car I stopped by a cafe that also has souvenirs I like collecting postcards from the places I visit full moon water? seems interesting no matter the season I always enjoy hot black tea after the meal I have always loved colorful gemstones they are so beautiful on the way back to central Kyoto Kibune was so refreshing especially in summer I still have a few more places I want to visit in this trip it looks like it will rain but I like how the sun shines through the clouds I came here for the interesting coffee presentation I saw on SNS sitting at a window side table after the lively crowd in Kibune this place feels so calm here comes my order I usually drink hot coffee but I wanted to try this coffee in ice here we go! good! lets try the cake fresh and yummy! now I’m in Gion seems like a bit of rain is coming but I like walking like this the area is busy but not overwhelming I will spend the night here good night! good morning! I woke up early around six to go out before it gets busy I really like the calm morning atmosphere heading to Kiyomizu Dera there are a few other early visitors like me I have visited Kiyomizu Dera many times and it always impressive but never came here in such a quiet state or looked at the details closely early morning temple visits give such a spiritual feeling since my last visit the ticket design has changed being here without the crowds feels so different let’s continue the way never noticed these jizo statues on my previous visits as with many details I hadn’t moticed before visitors are gradually coming now I personally recommend visiting here early in the morning it’s already seven in the morning going to walk back the way I came the shops are not open yet tough now we are going to the bus stop next stop is Otagi Nenbutsu-ji temple located in the northern area of Arashiyama let’s go inside this temple is famous for its 1200 rakan statues each statue has a unique face and pose some statues are smiling, some surprised, all very lively among the most unique temples I’ve ever visited they look ancient but were actually made in the 1980s that’s why some statues even have modern items like a camera but now covered in moss they look even more ancient and impressive I will walk towards Arashiyama still raining and I really like this kind of weather for a walk passing through quiet neighborhoods with temples and houses feels like walking through a countryside movie I think the scenery with the fields is among my favorite views in Japan together with the rain it looks more peaceful glad I chose to walk instead of taking the bus I came across this interesting a pottery shop before entering the bamboo forest selling many small tanuki figurines and statues they look so cute looks like crying this is historic pottery shop also sells handmade ceramics a warm and cozy feeling inside on the way to the Arashiyama bamboo forest a few years ago I came here during golden week and it was a bit busy but at the moment it’s much calmer as the rain got heavier I stepped into the first restaurant for lunch when I got inside I noticed I was a bit cold the pasta is really good this cafe is also known for the logo of a woman’s face bye bye face! the rain doesn’t take away the energy of the streets walking down to the Katsura river now to enjoy this beautiful rain now I stopped by the kimono forest full of kimono patterned pillars it seems interesting though I guess it glows beautifully at night a nice place to wear kimono and take photos ending the day with the sagano romantic train saw it on sns all the time and decided to give it a try bye bye! some of the wagons are open air makes you feel like riding inside the beautiful landscape but it is shaky and loud so I can’t fully recommend it this is the end of the journey in this video hope you enjoyed it too see you in the next video!
Join me on a summer day in Kyoto 🌿 From the cool rivers of Kifune and the fun Nagashi Somen, to the 1200 statues of Otagi Nenbutsu-ji and the lively streets of Arashiyama. I also stopped by cozy cafes, colorful shops, and the Kimono Forest. Even with the rain, it turned out to be one of my favorite trips in Japan.
🌱 This video simply reflects my personal experience in Kyoto.
I’m not an expert, just capturing moments in Kifune, Arashiyama and beyond that I enjoyed a lot.🧚🏻♀️
Hope it brings you a little calm and inspiration too!
