Getting a Haircut in Japan
Here’s a video of my son getting a haircut at a traditional Japanese barbershop in 2016. This shop was located on Port Island in Kobe, Japan. We took my son to this lovely old barber for a couple of years. In early 2017, he retired, and another barber took over the shop. We recently visited Port Island in July 2025, and the barber shop is no longer there. The place had probably been there since the early 1980s, and now it’s just an empty shell.
This kind old barber would cut my son’s hair for only 700 yen and then give him a pap of HiChew candy! He was very kind. A great Japan memory from our years living in Kobe.
