Walking tour of Japan’s largest active volcano – Mount Aso / Nakadake
Walking tour of Mount Aso, Mount Nakadake. A huge volcanic crater.
Mount Aso, on Japan’s Kyushu Island, is one of the world’s largest active volcanoes. Its huge caldera is home to the steaming Nakadake crater, where visitors can see volcanic gases rising from deep inside the earth. Surrounded by open grasslands and rugged peaks, the area offers striking views and a direct experience of Japan’s volcanic landscape.
Enjoy this brief walk. You can also explore the massive concrete shelters in case of an eruption. Access to the crater is prohibited, we were lucky enough to be able to visit.
