TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan City Government said Wednesday that two new Tigerair Taiwan routes will connect the city with Japan’s Kumamoto and Okinawa in December.
The routes will operate twice weekly, per CNA. The Tainan-Kumamoto service is set to begin Dec. 23 on Tuesdays and Fridays, while the Tainan-Okinawa route will launch Dec. 25 on Thursdays and Sundays.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) called the routes a breakthrough in expanding Tainan’s international tourism market, emphasizing the potential to attract more visitors.
“Tainan, Kumamoto, and Okinawa are all highly attractive tourist cities,” he said. “The launch of these new routes will not only shorten the distance between Tainan and southwestern Japan but also promote bilateral tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges.”
Tainan Tourism Bureau highlighted the historical and cultural links between Tainan and its Japanese destinations. Kumamoto shares connections through TSMC’s manufacturing presence, while Okinawa and Tainan have maritime trade and cultural ties.
The bureau said it will seek additional international routes and exchange opportunities, allowing more international travelers to discover Tainan.
