The Colombo High Court has scheduled the next pre-trial hearing on Oct. 15 for the case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against the family of former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
The case alleges that Rambukwella, his wife, their 03 daughters and son-in-law, had unlawfully acquired assets valued at over Rs. 97 million during his ministerial tenure from Aug. 13, 2020 – June 24, 2024, in violation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The case was taken up before High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal today (Oct. 01), with the accused present in the court.
President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa, representing Rambukwella, informed the court that 12 requested documents had not yet been provided by the CIABOC.
He warned that if indictments are suddenly filed, the defence would still lack access to essential documents, which are critical for preparing their case. he also pointed out that this would set a wrong precedent.
CIABOC Assistant Director General – Subashini Siriwardena, ssured the court that the Commission is working to locate and provide the requested documents, noting that some remain part of ongoing investigations.
Acknowledging this, Judge Mihal directed CIABOC to deliver the documents to the defence without delay and set Oct. 15 for the next hearing.
