TOKYO: Japan’s imports of Saudi crude oil in August 2025 amounted to about 30 million barrels, representing a significant 43.6 percent of the total, as reported by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry’s Agency of Natural Resources and Energy.
Arab Nations Dominated Japan’s Oil Imports, contributing 96.2 % in August, reaffirming its strategic importance in Japan’s energy security by their significant contribution to Japan’s oil imports.
The main contribution was from six Arab countries— Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Sudan —as well as the Neutral Zone.
The UAE provided 28.19 million barrels, which accounted for 40.9 percent of the total imports. Kuwait followed, contributing 5.33 million barrels (7.8 percent) then Qatar with 1.49 million barrels (2.2 percent).
Japan imported 0.6 percent from Oman and 0.4 percent from Sudan. The Neutral Zone , a smaller supplier, provided 0.7 percent of Japan’s total imports, highlighting the role of smaller suppliers in Japan’s energy security.
In August, oil imports featured contributions from the United States at 3.1 percent, while Colombia and Vietnam each accounted for 0.4 percent.
