The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) announced that Tokyo will host the World of Coffee Asia trade show and the World Barista Championship (WBC) in 2027.

The events are scheduled to run April 28 through May 1, 2027, at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center, through a collaboration between the SCA, the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan (SCAJ) and the Korean event production agency Exporum.

The Tokyo trade show will be the fourth under the World of Coffee Asia banner following events in Busan (2024), Jakarta (2025) and the forthcoming 2026 show in Bangkok.

The 2027 WBC will mark the competition’s first return to Tokyo since 2007, when UK coffee professional James Hoffmann delivered a winning routine en route to becoming prominent industry voice and coffee influencer.

“Tokyo is a global leader in coffee culture, with its cafes and roasters renowned for innovation, precision and design, while Japan remains one of the world’s largest coffee-consuming markets,” the SCA said in an announcement of the 2027 events. “As the championship returns in 2027, the international coffee community will once again look to Tokyo to set the stage for the next wave of ideas and flavors shaping the future of specialty coffee.”

The show announcements add to an already packed global schedule for the World of Coffee event series. The trade show is coming to San Diego in April 2026, Brussels in June 2026 and Panama in October 2026.

Closer on the horizon is the 2025 WBC set to take place at the HostMilano trade show in Milan, Italy, next month.
