This week’s FTJ takes on a day trip down to Sarushima, which happened on August 10, 2019.
As with my previous trip to Japan, a bunch of us were able to have a barbeque down by the water. Unlike that event, which was along the riverside, this one took us all down to Yokosuka. From there, it’s a 6-8 minute ferry ride to get to Sarushima. Despite its name, there are no monkeys on it, nor have there ever been. But! It was a military installation up until the end of World War II. After that, it has been converted into a park that is popular with folks from all over. It was quite busy when we went, with people coming and going by ferry the whole time. And it’s easy to walk around the whole island and take in the great view from its highest point.
