SAPPORO –

Hokkaido is again looking at the possibility of hosting a casino resort nearly six years after Gov. Naomichi Suzuki shut the door on plans for one.

In August, the Hokkaido government conducted a survey of municipalities to gauge local interest in developing an integrated resort (IR).

Meanwhile, Japan’s first IR — which will feature a casino alongside hotels, shopping areas and convention facilities — is currently under construction in Osaka Prefecture and is expected to open in 2030.
