Orix recorded their second four-game winning streak against Rakuten this season with 14 hit 10 runs, securing their first winning season in two years. With both teams scoreless in the second inning, Mugiya hit a timely single to right field to take the lead with one out and runners on first and third. From there, the batting line connected, scoring five runs with an RBI hit by Hirooka, sacrifice fly by Kurebayashi, and an RBI hit by Nakagawa. They added four runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth. Hirooka led the team with three RBI and Kurebayashi with RBI.
On the pitching side, starter Miyagi gave up six hit and one runs in five innings, earning his seventh win, tying his record from last season. He reached his personal best of 148 1/3 innings pitched pitched in 2012, and made it four straight wins.
