This is one of the best experience I really want to recommend to everyone near Nagoya. No fancy restaurants kitchen, just fire, seafood, and 2,000 years of tradition. These female divers are known as amma. They dive on a single breath, no tanks, just to catch lobster, abalone, and they will serve the freshest seafood in front of you. The largest remaining community are in Toba and Shima. After World War II, only a thousand remain and most of them are 60 to 70 years old, and they still dive on a single breath. They also share the stories with the guests personally with translation apps. Don’t worry if you don’t speak Japanese, they are trying their best. It is 2 hours away from Nagagoya by car.
