和歌山県道の駅リニューアル終わった道の駅再訪ドライブ。根来さくらの里・紀の川万葉の里【S660ドライブ】

Today, we’re going on another Michi-no-Eki tour. I’ve already finished visiting all the roadside stations in the Kinki region. Today, I’ll visit a Michi-no-Eki that was closed for renovation. There are still a few like this remaining. This time, I’ll head to a roadside station in northern Wakayama. There were about three stations that went through renovations. Right now, I’m driving on the Kinki Expressway. I’ll take the highway straight to Wakayama. And today, I plan to visit three roadside stations. The Michi-no-Eki I’ll visit today are: Negoro Sakura no Sato, Kinokawa Manyo no Sato, and Katsuragi Nishi. For some reason, they’re all concentrated around Katsuragi Town. So I should be able to visit them all with short travel times. I wasn’t sure which interchange I’d be guided to. But it looks like I’ll get off at the Sennan Interchange. So now, I’ll head toward Sennan at this junction. Around here, you can see Kansai Airport on the right side. From the north side of Osaka, Kansai Airport feels far away. But in northern Osaka, there’s Itami Airport, which is super convenient. From here, it’s about 5 km to the Sennan Interchange. I’ll exit at the Sennan Interchange. Once I enter Wakayama, Negoro Sakura no Sato should be nearby. In the previous video, I ended up just eating a Seventeen Ice. Something you can get anywhere—so that was a weak ending. Today, I hope I can find something more local to Wakayama. This is Prefectural Route 63. Along this Route 63, there’s a Michi-no-Eki. Once I cross into Wakayama, it should turn into a prefectural road. There it is—3 km to Negoro Sakura no Sato. The renovation wasn’t about rebuilding the structure itself. It looks like the inside of the shop was updated. During construction, the building didn’t seem to change. So I didn’t feel like the exterior became any newer. It must have been just an interior remodel. Soon it’ll be persimmon season here. Now, I’ve entered Iwade City in Wakayama. And here it is—Michi-no-Eki Negoro Sakura no Sato. Yes, Negoro Sakura no Sato. I bought their new specialty item. Here it is— I got some yomogi mochi. I’ll give it a try. It was the very last one. They even gave me chopsticks. It’s filled with lots of sweet red bean paste. It looks like this inside. Alright, let’s taste it. I was filming in the rest area, but someone came in, so… I came back to the car. Let’s try it again properly. It has a really nice mugwort aroma. The mochi is soft, and the sweetness is just right. It really soothes my travel fatigue. It didn’t say it was an original product, but I think it actually is one. If you visit, give it a try. They also sell other local Wakayama products. Summer is already over, but I saw some peaches still on sale. They were golden peaches. They also had Shine Muscat grapes and lots of other fruits from Wakayama. This Michi-no-Eki is great for buying vegetables and fresh fruits, so I recommend it. Alright, let’s head to the next station. I’m now on my way to the next one. The next Michi-no-Eki is Kinokawa Manyo no Sato. This roadside station too, just like Negoro Sakura no Sato, has had its specialty goods shop renovated. Last time, I couldn’t visit the shop. From here, I’ll head a little further south. Then I’ll turn east and go toward Katsuragi Town. The navigation is guiding me to the Keinawa Expressway, so I’ll take that route. I actually wanted to use local roads as much as possible… But since the GPS gives the fastest route, I’ll follow it. The Keinawa Expressway is free to use. If I keep going on this highway, I’ll reach Katsuragi Nishi Michi-no-Eki… So technically, I don’t have to stop at Manyo no Sato first. It’s a bit of a dilemma. But this time, I’ll visit Manyo no Sato first. In this area, it’s a bit disappointing that highways become the main route. But to visit Michi-no-Eki efficiently, these free highways are actually really convenient. I’ll exit at Kinokawa East. And then turn left at the light. Highways are convenient, sure, but driving leisurely on these local roads feels better as a road trip. Are those persimmons on the trees? There are lots of green fruits hanging. Or maybe those are mandarins? At this intersection, I’ll turn right. If I go down this road, on the left side there will be Michi-no-Eki Seishu no Sato. I’ve visited this Michi-no-Eki before. In this area, back in the Edo period, there was a famous doctor. His name was Hanaoka Seishu. Since this is his birthplace, they established “Seishu no Sato” here. The next traffic light intersects with Route 24. I’ll turn left here. Along this Route 24, you’ll find Michi-no-Eki Kinokawa Manyo no Sato. It’s a really nice roadside station. Located right by the Kinokawa River. Just 2 km left to Kinokawa Manyo no Sato. Only 1 km left now. Here we are—Kinokawa Manyo no Sato. At Kinokawa Manyo no Sato, the specialty goods shop was renovated. It’s quite bright inside. I bought a Shine Muscat sandwich made with Shine Muscat from Katsuragi Town. The fruits available change with the season, so this time, I picked up bread filled with Shine Muscat grapes. Let’s give it a try. Itadakimasu. The Shine Muscat is so delicious. When you eat fruits in season, they’re incredibly sweet, and they pair perfectly with bread. It’s amazing. I also bought one more thing at Manyo no Sato. This bunch of Shine Muscat grapes. I happened to visit right during Shine Muscat harvest season, so whole bunches were on sale. If you just want a little, they also sell small portions like this. Since they were from Katsuragi Town, I bought some. Alright, let’s taste these grapes too. They’re unbelievably sweet. So good. One of the best things about Michi-no-Eki is buying local produce. Fresh fruits like this are especially delicious. The fruits change depending on the season, so if you visit Katsuragi, definitely try the fruits. Shall we head out? I’ve left Manyo no Sato, and now I’ll go to Katsuragi Nishi Michi-no-Eki. It’s also in the same town, very close by. Compared to Manyo no Sato… It was a Michi-no-Eki filled with vegetables and fruits. But if your timing is bad, there might not be much on display. Persimmon season is coming soon, so they’ll be lined up then. Even today, I saw seedless persimmons being sold. There weren’t many prepared foods or sushi available. Ready-to-eat items were not sold in large amounts—though that may depend on timing. It really changes depending on when you visit. Michi-no-Eki Katsuragi Nishi also serves as a parking area for the Keinawa Expressway. The parking lot is divided into a section for the expressway and one for the Michi-no-Eki. I didn’t realize that the first time I came. Last time, I could only access the outbound side. At this intersection, I’ll turn right. The overpass above is the Keinawa Expressway. I’ll turn right at this intersection, and today— let’s go to the inbound side. You can visit both the inbound and outbound areas. Let’s head toward the Nara direction. I’ve arrived at the inbound side of Katsuragi Nishi. What I bought at Katsuragi Nishi’s inbound side was a local sweet that’s offered to Niu Myojin Shrine nearby. I bought those manju buns. Niu Myojin Shrine is a famous shrine in this area. And these sweets are specially prepared for them. They say they taste best warmed up in the microwave. So I’ll take them home and eat them there. Next, I’ll also check out the outbound side. I tried them at home later. What I bought at Katsuragi Nishi was a sweet called “Buto,” offered to the deities of Niu Myojin Shrine. They recommend warming it in the microwave, so I’ll heat it a little. About 10 seconds in the microwave. I’ve just warmed it up. It’s a big pastry. Inside, it’s filled with sweet red bean paste like this. Let’s try it. It has a unique aroma, so I wondered what it was… Turns out, it has curry powder in it. Such an unusual combination. The outside tastes and feels like Okinawan sata andagi doughnuts. Inside, it’s filled with red bean paste, and at the end, you suddenly get a hint of curry. It’s a flavor combination I’ve never had before. It’s not something I could have thought of myself. This sweet is said to be a confection that brings happiness. It’s rare and considered a special, blessed food. At the Katsuragi Nishi parking area, when you visit Michi-no-Eki Katsuragi Nishi, I recommend giving it a try. Alright, let’s head to the outbound side. I’ve been to the outbound side before, but this time I want to take a look at the parking lot. This here is the Michi-no-Eki parking area. It feels less crowded here. (Though, not really in the end…) I also visited the outbound side of Katsuragi Nishi. The products being sold weren’t all that different. Here, I bought jakosushi, which I had before and really enjoyed. It’s seriously delicious, so if you come here, please try it. “Jako” means small fish. They’re wrapped in leaves, and inside are tiny fish, wrapped like this. I think it was in a sweet-savory sauce. The vinegared rice with the sweet-savory fish flavor is such a perfect match—it’s delicious. If you come here, definitely give it a try. I’ve accomplished today’s goal, so from here, I’ll start heading home. I also stopped by Michi-no-Eki Kushigaki no Sato, and what I bought here was Takasago Arare rice crackers. They’re made in Iwade City, not Katsuragi Town, but I had planned to buy them today. Since they were being sold at Kushigaki no Sato, I picked them up. These arare crackers are incredibly tasty— I highly recommend them. You can buy them at Kushigaki no Sato, but they were also sold at other roadside stations nearby. I saw them at the Michi-no-Eki I visited today. They’re made by Masuda Beika in Iwade City. Definitely try these arare rice crackers.
