The organizer of the 2025 World Expo in Osaka says the number of visitors has exceeded the break-even point with 15 days remaining before the event closes.
The organizer announced on Sunday that preliminary data shows that the number of ticketed visitors surpassed 22 million on Saturday. That figure has been seen as the number needed to avoid a loss.
The expo opened in April in the western Japanese city of Osaka, with 158 countries and regions taking part. It will close on October 13.
More than 200,000 people a day have been visiting the venue over the past two weeks. If the current pace continues, the final visitor figure will be around 25 million, surpassing that for the 2005 expo in Aichi, central Japan.
The organizer sets a cap on daily entry to ensure safety and requires visitors to make reservations for specific dates and times.
Reservation slots are almost fully booked through the final day, and the booking website is experiencing high traffic.
The organizer has no plan to refund any people who have tickets but are unable to enter the venue. Responding to people with unused tickets has become a challenge for the organizer in the expo’s final phase.
