On Inasa Beach in Shimane Prefecture, a Shinto ritual is held on the 10th day of October to welcome 8 million deities coming from all over the country to attend the once a year meeting at Izumo-taisha Grand Shrine where they discuss all matters big and small. So, in old calendar, October is called ‘the month all deities are here’ in Izumo region and ‘the month all deities are away’ elsewhere.
