Community fans had long requested a Forza Horizon set in Japan, and rumors had been brewing about the franchise’s turn to the East Asian chain of islands. Microsoft has officially confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will be set in Japan, as this announcement came at Tokyo Game Show 2025. But there’s a catch. Forza Horizon 6 will not launch on PlayStation 5 on day one, unlike on PC and Xbox Series S|X.

In a recent Xbox Wire blog post, the text in the footnote mentioned the staggered rollout of Forza Horizon 6 on the PlayStation 5, stating:

Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox consoles and PC in 2026. With the excitement for this franchise on other platforms, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are also working together to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PlayStation post-launch. For now, players can wishlist on Xbox and Steam, and we can’t wait to share more details on Forza Horizon 6 early next year.

For now, no specific timeline has been revealed for the PS5 version’s release. Industry watchers speculate that Xbox is taking a timed-exclusive approach with Forza Horizon 6, though it’s likely possible that the game could release on PlayStation anywhere from three months to a year post-launch.

Forza Horizon 6’s teaser trailer was revealed at Xbox’s presentation at TGS 2025, featuring a garage with a few license plates from prior entries adorned on the wall. The ambience cut to Japanese hip-hop, as the camera panned to a Japanese license plate, followed by a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji from the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi.

The garage appears to be located in the town of Fujikawaguchiko in the Yamanashi Prefecture, with the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge in the backdrop. However, some exact locations may be cut from the final game, as the Horizon series is known to approach a fictionalized take on real-world locations.

Art director Don Arceta explained the Japanese-inspired world in the Xbox Wire post and stated, “While we’re not announcing too much in terms of details right now, we’re excited to show fans the true breadth of beauty – both natural and urban environments – that Japan has to offer.
