Lilycove City & Mt. Pyre / Osumi, Kagoshima | Real Life #Pokemon Location of #Hoenn Region (Japan)
[Music] It’s my grand poke. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Hey guys, welcome back to the next stop on this Hoen adventure. And here I am in Lily Cove City. Now, Lily Cove City, if you look into the Hoen world map, it looks like a small point on the um how can I say the eastern side of the region and in the real world Kyoshir would be the southern side. However, when you get to Lily Cove City, you can really see that it’s actually the entire peninsula. You get the shoreline when you get to Lily Cove City. So it’s actually not the uh not a small town or a city but rather representing the entire peninsula of uh Kagroima. It’s a bit like um Fujia city in the Caner region. Um it’s actually representing the entire Minami Boso Peninsula rather than um just uh Tatyama city. Having said that, behind me you can see over there wonderful volcano. Do you know what it is? It’s Sakurajima which is Mount Pa. Incredible, isn’t it? It’s identical in the game in the anime. It’s Mount Pa Sakurima. It’s an active volcano as well. And you can see that it’s apparently spewing some ash. Another point about the lick of city is that it contains a department store, museum, um, lighthouse, all these things. Um, however, there isn’t really a large city in Osumi Peninsula that represents all of these things. So, the only department store that I could find was one in Shibushi uh on the northern side um of the uh Lico City Peninsula. And in that same city, Shibushi, uh you can also find a cultural artifacts museum, which is actually the only museum that I could find, uh which unfortunately doesn’t have art gallery, which Lady Curve City does, but um instead it has like archaeological excavated items uh of historical significance. So that was the best I could find. And other point is that to get to uh the other side of Kagoshima, you need to cross a ferry. Uh, of course, in the game, you actually surf past Mount PA. We’re going to head to that direction and hopefully get a even better view of this incredible, incredible volcano. Um, another point I’d like to make about Mount PA is that uh, team magma might be lurking around. So hopefully we don’t run into them or if the ground starts shaking, the volcano starts erupting, we know the reason. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] So, I’m just uh waiting to board the ferry with the car, of course. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I didn’t know what to expect, but um somehow I’ve managed to pull this off. Today was always going to be the most difficult day in terms of distance and um boarding the boat with the car, but somehow I’m managed to do it. I’m absolutely exhausted. Even like coming into Tarumu, I could really feel like my eyes were kind of burning. But you know what? After we get onto the ferry, it’s pretty much smooth sailing. No pun intended. We’re going to surf across and get to Kokoshima City and then check into the hotel. Then I can rest. It’s pretty much the day is finished. [Music] Heat up here. [Music] Heat up here. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
Hey guys! As we head down the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, we encounter the majestic Sakurajima volcano. In the Pokémon world this is the inspiration for Mt. Pyre, looming just off the coast. Lilycove City in the game sits on the peninsula as a large coastal metropolis. In reality though, no such large city exists here. The biggest settlement in the area is Kanoya, but it does not match all of Lilycove’s features.
Looking closely at the overworld map, Lilycove seems to spread across the entire peninsula rather than just a single urban centre. This is not unusual. Pokémon often compresses scale for gameplay. For example, the Spaceworld demo of Gold and Silver shrinks all of Kanto into a single city icon. The developers focus more on cultural and symbolic elements than on perfect geography. That is why an entire region like the Osumi Peninsula can be distilled into a single city like Lilycove.
For me this stop was emotional. The drive down here was long and challenging, but the scenery was worth every kilometre. The Osumi Peninsula, with its coastal views and the shadow of Sakurajima, feels like the true counterpart to Lilycove’s role in Hoenn: a place where culture, geography, and symbolism meet.
