Japan’s Hidden North | Early Autumn Trip to Aomori’s Untouched Beauty | Oirase | JAPAN TRAVEL VLOG

Good morning everyone, this is Mona😊 I’m at Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) today. My destination for this trip is Aomori Prefecture! Aomori is located at the northernmost tip of Honshu (the largest island of Japan), facing Hokkaido across the sea to the north. Aomori is a treasure trove of rich nature, traditional culture including festivals, and fresh food. Actually, I’ve never been to Aomori. I wonder what kind of place it is. I’m so excited♡ Wow, it’s beautiful view😍 Here we go—an 80-minute journey through the sky! This Tokyo (Haneda)-Misawa flight apparently operates four times a day. It looks like I’m about to land. I’m excited at the sight of unfamiliar landscape from the airplane window✨ I’ve arrived at Misawa Airport. Let’s head to my first destination. Wow, the beautiful moss terrariums♡ This area is called Oirase, and this facility serves as a base for ecotourism. Products made with Aomori apples and Oirase water are lined up here. This is a map of Oirase Gorge, where I’m heading now. I’ll start from this golden route. Now, let’s get going! Ah, just as I thought… The river water is muddy around here. Aomori was hit by record-breaking rainfall not long ago. It seems Oirase Gorge was also affected. I heard that the further upstream you go, the clearer the river water becomes! Let’s take a stroll. How beautiful it is🥰 The sound of the water embraces everything. It’s simply soothing. The water is getting clearer. Wow, there are lots of small fish! The Oirase Gorge is also a precious moss forest, home to more than 300 species of moss. The waterfall is so powerful. It’s a little cold. It feels as if my heart is becoming clear too. This is the historic shrine surrounded by beautiful nature. It’s probably a good idea to take precautions against bears when walking around this area. What a mystical atmosphere. It’s captivating. The row of cedar trees are also beautiful. Wow, such a majestic shrine building. The sunlight filtering through the trees is gentle, and there’s a somewhat peaceful atmosphere. I will worship. Let’s explore a little further. I’ve arrived at Lake Towada! The lake is incredibly clear. Now, it’s time to head to today’s hotel. This is the only resort hotel located along the Oirase Gorge. A lovely, warm lobby. The large fireplace is impressive. This is the “Gorge Suite Room” where I’ll be staying today. Here comes a real moss mural all of a sudden! Wow, how lovely💚 I can feel a touch of nature’s warmth within the luxurious atmosphere. There are two bedrooms. Let’s go out to the private conservatory. Wow, what a huge guest room hot spring! I can hear the murmuring of the river all the way here. Next to the hot spring is a shower room and washroom. And there’s even a makeup room! Apple-flavored chocolate. There’s also a wide variety of drinks available. This room seems good for long-term stays. Now it’s time for dinner! Oirase Gorge is right in front of me. Tonight’s dinner is at the French restaurant “Sonore.” What a gorgeous amuse-bouche! It’s practically art. Delicious♡ Now, it’s time to eat in the dining room. This course is a summer-only menu. This is carefully crafted dinner course that elevates the local food culture and the flavors of Aomori’s summer. I had a truly luxurious time. Good morning! It’s breakfast time in the private conservatory, accompanied by the sound of the river. Dishes that make the most of the ingredients are laid out. Wow, it’s beautiful♡ I came to make an Oirase Lamp as a memento of my trip. Which gourd should I choose? Surprisingly, it’s not so easy to stick it in straight. It’s finished🙌 Well, today I’m heading to the sea town of Hachinohe! Wow, it’s amazing! Fresh seafood is lined up in abundance. This is a huge market selling seafood caught at Hachinohe Port. I’ll have lunch here. Apparently, you can choose your favorite Sashimi (raw fish) and make it into a seafood bowl. I’ll order raw oyster too! It looks so delicious😋 The raw oyster is plump with a strong scent of the sea, and the Sashimi in the seafood bowl is also fresh. Ah, happiness♡ The chirping of insects and the swaying Japanese pampas grass make me feel the arrival of autumn. This is a stone observation deck jutting out from the cape. Wow, spectacular view💙 The rugged rock faces are also impressive! The sea breeze feels so nice. I can enjoy a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. The sun is getting quite low in the sky. The port town, with the sunlight sparkling on the water, is truly beautiful. This place is a designated national natural monument as a breeding ground for black-tailed gull. It is the shrine believed to grant blessings such as prosperous business and safe fishing. It is said to be a symbol of Hachinohe that has long watched over the city. Now, I’ve arrived at today’s hot spring inn! Wow, it’s nothing but apples as far as the eye can see🍎 There’s a faucet on the tree. Apple juice is coming out! It feels so dreamy♡ There are also some apple-based games. It looks like fun😆 This inn feels like a Japanese festival. It seems I can also rent a Yukata (casual summer Japanese clothing). This is the room I’ll stay today, called the “Aomori Nebuta Room.” What?! What is this?! There are footprints of tabi socks (traditional Japanese socks) along the hallway. My heart is beating fast. Wow, this is amazing! This guest room is themed around the Aomori Nebuta Festival, Aomori’s most famous festival. It was created with the cooperation of Nebuta artisan, Hiroo Takenami. The works of this guest room are filled with wish and prayer for the recovery of Tohoku. Apparently, it took about a year from conception to completion. It’s so powerful that I can’t sleep peacefully😂 Even the bathroom and bathroom facilities show attention to detail of Nebuta Festival. Now, it’s time for dinner! Wow, it looks delicious🤤 Cheers🥂 As expected, there seems to be a lot of seafood. You can enjoy Aomori’s local cuisine buffet-style. There’s a wide variety, which is great♡ After dinner, let’s head to the show venue. The footage from this point onward was filmed and released with special permission. “Aomori’s winter, sealed in by snow.” “The people of Aomori patiently endure the cold, waiting for the spring when greenery sprouts, and for the summer beyond.” “Until the day of that passionate festival!” “At the root of the Nebuta Festival lie people’s prayers and their pride in their hometown.” “Nebuta, where everyone’s hearts unite and burn with full passion, is a fire festival that embodies the fiery spirit of the people of Aomori — one of Japan’s most iconic traditional festivals!” The venue becomes one, and Aomori’s passionate night deepens. Good morning! The breakfast is also gorgeous. I’m happy since morning♡ Let’s eat. And then, I’ve come for afternoon tea. A lovely and elegant autumn space🍁 I’ll enjoy 15 dishes featuring Aomori’s autumn delicacy, Nagaimo (Japanese mountain yam), before heading home.
