TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan reached 1 million Japanese visitors one month earlier than last year, the Tourism Administration said Saturday.
The number was achieved on September 25, while in 2024 it took until late October, the Liberty Times reported. The feat coincided with the visit of Tourism Administration officials to a travel fair in Nagoya, where a Taiwan pavilion bore the catchphrase “Taiwan – Waves of Wonder.”
The overall number of tourists in Taiwan during the first half of 2025 showed an increase of 10% from the same period last year, while the number of visitors from Japan grew 11% over the same time span.
The new spokesperson for Taiwan tourism in Japan, actor Tsumabuki Satoshi (妻夫木聰), made his first appearance in the job at the Nagoya fair Friday. A promotional movie he shot will appear in the Japanese media in mid-October.
The Tourism Administration said the campaign was emphasizing a wide range of aspects, from food and nature to culture and urban leisure. The government department was confident Tsumabuki’s work and its efforts would combine to attract even more visitors from Japan over the next year.
