Labubus have proven to be the toy of 2025, with collectors young and old not being able to get enough of the playful POP MART monsters. Now, the end of a major event is seeing an exclusive new version of the creature born through a collaborative design.
Exclusive to Expo 2025 — the World Expo taking place this year in Osaka, Japan — this new Labubu is a mashup between the creature and the event’s official mascot, MYAKU-MYAKU. Designed by the creator of the Labubus, this toy caps off the final month of the expo. Of course, there are several hoops to getting one, and like many Japanese collectibles, it’s based on a special lottery system.
Japan Unveils Its Rare New Labubu for 2025 at World Expo
Set to be released during October in the final days of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, the new Labubu x Myakumyaku figure is truly a sight to “see.” As the name might suggest, the toy is a collaborative cross between a Labubu doll and Myakumyaku, the multi-eyed mascot of the event. In the place of Myakumyaku’s blue body is a blue Labubu, though the monster lacks its species’ traditional fur. Myakumyaku is based on water and cells, explaining its cerulean color scheme. The initial images also tout the personal involvement of Kasing Lung, the creator of the playful POP MART monsters. As with any version of Labubus, however, the toys are poised to be incredibly popular — and extremely hard to get.
The first step to obtaining one of the Labubu x Myakumyaku toys is to visit the Official Store at the East Gate of the Expo, operated by the Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., during the event, which runs until Oct. 13. Next, fans will need to scan a QR code with their smartphone and apply for the lottery using a LINE account, with the results of the lottery announced that day. After being called, winners will have three hours to purchase their Labubu win. This is just one of many releases that celebrate the final days of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, although due to the worldwide craze behind Labubu, it will likely also be one of the most desired. Labubus have crossed over with various anime brands and franchises, and through companies such as Uniqlo, they’ve become officially anime-adjacent.
