A night of autumn leaves and digital art: “Miracle Illumination 8th” (Kamikawa Town)

This light-up event will fantastically decorate Momijidani, Sounkyo Onsen, Japan’s earliest autumn foliage spot. The vibrant leaves will be bathed in light, and digital art that reacts to people’s movements will turn your evening stroll into a special experience. There will also be plenty of playful gimmicks, such as light displays that spread out at your feet and art that is reflected on rental umbrellas.

“Yokubari Festa 2025” (Esashi Town) features a wide selection of autumn gourmet foods, mainly seafood from Esashi

This event brings together a wide variety of seasonal seafood, including Esashi Town’s autumn salmon and Esashi scallops. In addition to a seafood and agricultural product sale run by local groups, there are also unique events such as a scallop peeling competition and a scallop catcher. There’s also a full selection of Hokkaido’s autumn delicacies, including salmon hotpot and salmon chanchanyaki.

“HOKKAIDO FOOVIE FES 2025” is a three-day event where you can enjoy food and movies at various locations in Sapporo (Sapporo City)

This film festival is themed around “FOOD” and “MOVIE.” Set in cinemas in Sapporo and the former Hokkaido Prefectural Government Office (Red Brick Building), it will screen domestic and international films related to food, and also hold talk shows. In addition to watching films, there will also be events where you can sample dishes inspired by the films, and food events where you can enjoy a great meal and drink tour of restaurants in the city. This is an event where you can enjoy Hokkaido’s unique “food” and “films” with all five senses.

Okhotsk gourmet food gathers in Kitami “Kitami Autumn Festival ~ Okhotsk Marche 2025 ~” (Kitami City)

This lively event brings together delicious food, laughter, and music. You can enjoy Okhotsk food and beers from around the country and the world, including Okhotsk Beer, and there will also be booths unique to Kitami, the “town of yakiniku.” There will also be a fun festival and game corner for children, and there will be impersonation shows, mini-live performances, and stand-up comedy on stage.

“Sapporo Game Camp 2025” (Sapporo City), the largest game development event in Hokkaido, brings together game companies from the city.

This is one of Hokkaido’s largest game development events, bringing together Sapporo-based companies involved in game development. It offers a wide variety of programs, including a “Game Jam” where you can try your hand at game development from scratch alongside professionals, programming classes, a mini e-sports tournament, and talk sessions. It’s a must-see event for game fans, where everyone from children to adults can experience the joy of game development and the latest in digital entertainment.

“nouon – Farm Road Music Festival” (Fukagawa City), an outdoor festival where you can enjoy music and food surrounded by rice fields

Set against the backdrop of Fukagawa City’s vast rice fields, this unique outdoor festival combines music, food, and agricultural culture for the first time. In addition to being able to taste freshly milled and cooked Fukagawa-grown rice on the spot, there is also a wide selection of fresh vegetables for sale, freshly made Fukagawa 28% soba noodles, and gourmet food made with local produce. With music blaring from the stage, a play area for children, and street performers, the festival is a fun event for the whole family.

Hakodate MOMI-G Festa (Hakodate City), an illuminated autumn foliage event with a spectacular view from the garden pavilion

This autumn event is held at Kosetsuen, Hakodate’s premier spot for viewing autumn leaves. During the event, the garden is lit up, centered around a 100-meter-long row of maple trees, creating a fantastical atmosphere for enjoying the autumn scenery. The garden pavilion, built in the style of a teahouse, is open to the public from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing you to enjoy the autumn leaves from different perspectives both indoors and outdoors.

Tourist bus tour of the five major autumn foliage spots in Jozankei, Sapporo “Jozankei Five Major Autumn Foliage Spots by Bus” (Sapporo City)

Jozankei, Sapporo’s inner sanctum, is a popular spot bustling with visitors as a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves. For a limited time, buses run from the Jozankei Tourist Information Center to five areas with spectacular autumn foliage views, including Hoheikyo Dam, Sapporo International Ski Resort, and the Hakkenzan area. Guided tours are also available, including strolls through the hot spring town and around Lake Sapporo, so you can easily enjoy viewing the autumn leaves even without a car.

This light-up event beautifully illuminates the autumn leaves of Hachironuma Park in Hokuto City. During the day, you can enjoy the changing colors of the trees in the park, and at night, you can enjoy the fantastic sight of the illuminated autumn leaves reflected on the mirror-like surface of Hachironuma Lake. Various mini-events are also planned during the event, which will add color to your autumn time along with the autumn leaf-viewing.

“TAKEURA ART PROMNADE” (Shiraoi Town): An old elementary school building transformed into an art space with light

“TAKEURA ART PROMNADE,” held in Shiraoi Town, is a light art event set at the former Takeura Elementary School. The school building, stone monuments, and symbolic tree are bathed in soft light, transforming the space into a fantastical one. During the event, a “Full Moon Night Market” will also be held for two days only, with local restaurants, bakeries, confectionery shops, and more selling a variety of gourmet food, and live music performances available.
