My Japanese Adventures Episode 15/Day 15: Chiba & 海人酒房 Uminchu Shubo Okinawan at Ikspiari, Maihama!

Welcome to Week 3 of My Japanese Adventures.
I am halfway through! My friend took me to a ramen shop. Fukutake. (Yes.) Small, medium & large noodle portions are all the same price. (Oh!) (There’s Char Siu.) Thank you. (Looks delicious!) Fish soup. Shrimp soup. Shrimp. The nooldes are cold. Very rich. There’s umami. (Great.) I will drink lots of water. Drink lots of water. Because the soup is so rich. (I last came here not too long ago.) The umami is strong. You like ramen? Sometimes. Sometimes. (Sometimes.) (But this one…) Ya, this one is ok. I normally don’t eat ramen, but this place is traditional & cute. Famous people came here & signed their autographs. I treated my friend ramen,
because I have been bothering her for the last 2 days. I picked up my luggage from my friend’s home
& headed back to Shinjuku area. It took me 2 hours. I’m home. Finally. Yeah. Back home! I went back home to get something for my friend
to meet in Maihama. I met up with my friend & gave her the ears. She gave me a gift. Maihama is where Tokyo Disney Resort is. I did some window shopping. Thank you. I played rock, paper, scissors at Disney Store in Japanese
& received a free card. Upcoming product release preview. It’s better to shop before dinner, so the shops are still open. Before dinner, I highly recommend to go to the mall Information counter & show your passport for discount voucher. (You can choose available shop list.) OK. (OK?) Thank you. (Thank you.) Each card is one-time use & same day only. I was trying to read the store names in Japanese… It will take me forever. Everything looks good with the colorful pictures. Negitoro Don set looks good too. Is this tofu? I tried to avoid chain restaurants. I ended up trying this Okinawan restaurant, Uminchu Shubo,
but later I realized that this is a chain too. They also don’t accept the discount voucher. May I have a little bit of everything? (Only one…) Only one. What’s your recommendation? (I recommend the bonito flakes.) Yes, please. (Thank you very much.) This tofu dish is mandatory (otoshi), & it’s 330 yen. Thank you very much. You can only pick one topping,
& the server recommended bonito flakes. So many Awamori to choose from. First, I ordered Awamori, Okinawan alcohol on the rocks. You scan the QR code to order.
You can order in either Japanese or English. I ordered some Okinawan specialty dishes
like sea grapes & mozuku. If you are dining Okinawan, you have to order Awamori. It’s a strong Okinawan alcohol that kind of tastes like shochu. They also have a flight, but I was on a budget, so I only got 1. (Goya Champuru [Stir-Fried Bitter Melon & Vegetables] &…) (Deep-Fried Okinawan Soba.) Goya Champuru is Stir-Fried Bitter Melon & Vegetables. It is an authentic Okinawan dish. Some people may not like the bitterness,
but it also brings out some sweetness. It is an interesting mix of flavors. (Please dip [shallots] with miso.) (Here is ponzu [for sea grapes].) Thank you very much. The Okinawan Soba was not what I expected. It’s thick noodles, & the portion is too much for 1 person. You dip it in sugar & eat it like chips. I couldn’t finish it obviously. (It’s Mixed Mozuku Seaweed Tempura &…) (Boiled Fish Paste w/ Seaweed.) (Please dip soy sauce with this.) Excuse me, do you have this bottle? I want to take a picture. (Oh, please wait a moment.) Thank you very much. I tried to ask for the Awamori bottle for picture. Thank you very much. (Please return after taking pictures.) These are what I ordered so far, & I have more dishes coming. The Umibudo, or sea grapes seaweed, is crunchy & refreshing with a bit of saltniess. You balance the taste with a dip of ponzu. The interesting flavor of the dishes were good with the Awamori. The Mozuku Seaweed is so long. The sour taste from the vinegar sauce
is also good with Awamori. The Purple Yam Tempura is huge & very filling. The Boiled Fish Paste with Seaweed is like Fish Cake. You have it with grated ginger. The Okinawa Shallot is like a hybrid of onion & green onion. You dip it with miso sauce. The texture of the Mozuku Seaweed in the tempura changed. It’s like eating Mushroom Tempura. Remember to stay hydrated by drinking water too. (This is last order.) I am ok. Do you have a box togo? (No, we don’t.) No? I ordered too much food because I wanted try everything. I ordered 10 items total. They didn’t have a togo box, but I had a ziplock bag. This is a nice place for drinking & can get loud. The only thing is that they don’t accept the mall coupon. Cute Okinawan background music too. You will hear Disney tones at Maihama JR Station. I always walk by this bento chain on the way home. I will try it sometime. See you in my next episode, Nihonbashi!
