Japan and the Netherlands Strengthen Hydrogen Collaboration with MoU Signing at Osaka Expo
Japan is one of the frontrunners in hydrogen. Through consistent investment from private parties and robust government support, the country is now a leader in the development of hydrogen technologies and value chains. The long-standing hydrogen cooperation between Japan and The Netherlands was strengthened today by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Japan Hydrogen Association (JH2A) and NLHydrogen.
Hiroshi Fukushima, Executive Director of JH2A and Marcel Galjee, President of NLHydrogen have signed this MoU at the Energy Transition Conference at the Expo Salon in Osaka Expo today, in the presence of Sophie Hermans, the Dutch minister for Climate and Green Growth. The MoU signing is part of a broader Dutch economic mission on energy transition, sustainability & circular economy to Japan. This mission was organised on occasion of the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, and features hydrogen as one of the key topics.
Marcel Galjee, said:
I was in Japan on a previous Dutch economic mission in 2019.
“It’s exciting to see the plans and pilots that I saw then come into fruition today. The consistent commitment to hydrogen that this country shows is exactly what is needed to really make it happen. We’re looking forward to working together with JH2A on our shared mission.”
The MoU proposes an exchange of information between our organizations on the following topics:
Technology – sharing best practices and state-of-the-art technologies and projects
Value chain development – how can separate projects and technologies be connected in value chains, and how do we match supply, demand and required infrastructure?
Policy framework – how do government parties facilitate value technology and value chain development in both countries?
Coordination on development of global standards.
