Japanese food ingredients can bring happiness to people around the world, stressed Shigeru Ishiba at an event held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan in New York City.

The Japanese Prime Minister, who is in the US to attend the high-level United Nations General Assembly, highlighted the wide variety and rich flavors of Japanese food ingredients and its popularity in the US at an event to promote “Taste of Japan: A Culinary Journey” in New York.

The event was attended by approximately 150 guests including from the food industry, the US government, and the press.

In his address, Ishiba also highlighted the transformation of agricultural policy including the revival of farmland and increased rice production, and the potential of increasing tenfold the number of onigiri (rice ball) shops worldwide through such initiatives.

During this event, top chefs in New York showcased the attraction of Japanese cuisine by serving original dishes made of Japan’s most well-known, exported ingredients such as rice, scallops, yellowtail, and Wagyu beef, paired with Japanese sake.
