A design by Dr. Edwin Mintoff Architects for the Malta Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka has been awarded the Bronze Award in the “People’s Choice” category at the World Expo Olympics, organized by the Experiential Design Authority.
The “People’s Choice” award is determined by popular vote, representing the voice of the global public.
“With 158 participating countries at Expo 2025, this award is a powerful testament to the pavilion’s ability to resonate with international visitors, confirming the strength of the design and the universal appeal of Malta’s cultural storytelling,” the design office said.
Founded by Edwin Mintoff, the practice has grown into one of Malta’s leading multidisciplinary firms with projects spanning both Malta and overseas.
The Malta Pavilion, conceived under the theme “Catch the Wave”, is a striking architectural landmark that blends Malta’s ancient heritage with its vision for the future. Its limestone-like digital façade, temple-inspired curves, and immersive interior experiences embody Malta’s timeless identity while embracing innovation.
From the evocative entrance recalling Malta’s sea caves, to water features symbolising maritime traditions and an immersive audiovisual journey through Malta’s past and aspirations for tomorrow – the pavilion captivated global audiences at Expo 2025.
“We are truly honoured that the Malta Pavilion has been recognized by the people themselves, among 158 international participants,” Mintoff said.
“This award is a proud moment for Malta, showing that our story, our design, and our vision resonate far beyond our shores.”
