Kate O’Connor – her knee injury means a return to Ireland sooner than planned

The Dundalk woman had planned to spend some down time in Tokyo and Japan following her weekend heroics – but those plans have since been altered

Kate O’Connor has decided to return to Ireland for treatment on her knee injury.

The heptathlon World Championship silver medallist had planned to say in Japan to travel for a couple of weeks.

However the 24-year-old has instead opted to get her knee assessed, in a bid to be fully fit for the start of next season.

She suffered the injury during the javelin last Saturday – which was the penultimate event, prior to the closing 800m.
