On the 21st, Rakuten announced that outfielder Takero Okajima (36) will retire from active duty at the end of this season.

Okajima, a Gunma Prefecture native, graduated from Kanto Gakuen University High School and then went on to Hakuoh Rakuten as the fourth pick in the 2011 draft. He was initially registered catcher but was later moved to outfielder, where he excelled as a speedy and skilled fielder. He has struggled with injuries in recent years, appearing in just 31 games last season, and has yet to play in the first team this season.

He played in 1,010 games, batting .257 with 41 Home Run, 311 RBI, and 41 stolen base bases. The team plans to hold a retirement press conference at a later date.
