Taste all the Hinai Jidori chicken at Tori Sho Sai, a yakitori restaurant near Nijo Castle.

Chicken Sho Tsuyoshi (Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) is a renovated machiya (townhouse) built in the Meiji era with a garden and storehouse. The magnificent one-piece zelkova and camphor wood counter, surrounded by shining copper plate walls and spherical pendant lights, is a gorgeous decoration that is hard to believe this is a yakitori restaurant. Akira Matsuzaki, the owner of the restaurant, says, “We use natural fire for all of our dishes, such as charcoal-grilled yakitori, dashimaki tamago made over a wood fire, and rice cooked in an okudo-san.
