The organizer of the 2025 World Expo in Osaka says a total of four people have been slightly injured during fireworks events.

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition said that a woman visiting the Expo site was hurt when what appears to have been debris from fireworks fell on her forehead on Saturday night.

At a news conference on Monday, Takashina Jun, a deputy secretary general at the association, said that prior to the incident three more visitors had also been hit and injured by what looks to have been fireworks debris. Those visitors alerted the association.

The timing of their injuries and their ages are yet to be released. But the association added that none of the injuries were serious.

Following Saturday’s incident, the association has tightened its criteria, including wind speed and direction, for deciding whether to go ahead with events in which large fireworks are used.

Takashina has apologized and expressed the hope that those injured will get well soon. He also said that he will work even harder to ensure safety during fireworks displays.
