【和歌山旅行】大人の日帰り旅!ゆったりカフェと海の絶景、神社参拝を大満喫するVlog
Hello, my name is Shie. I recently visited Wakayama. First, I went to a place I’d been interested in. Its retro exterior stands out. This is a coffee shop. Its name is Coffee House Gasto. Isn’t the tasteful exterior intriguing? The interior is also lovely! It has a stately, classic atmosphere. I ordered the breakfast set (950 yen with a drink). For the drink, I chose fresh lemon squash (+200 yen). I’m happy that they offer breakfast until 12:00 on Sundays and holidays. It ‘s perfect for a hot day and is refreshing. The generous portion—toast, fried shrimp, hamburger steak, bacon and egg, salad, and fruit—is fantastic! It might even be just the right amount for an early lunch. The fried shrimp with tartar sauce had a chewy texture, and the shrimp inside was chewy. I enjoyed a variety of toppings on the toast for a fun breakfast. The cozy atmosphere made me want to linger. I was captivated by the atmosphere of this retro coffee shop, which has been in business for 43 years. Thank you for the meal. Now that we’re full, we head to the shrine. We cross the Kinokawa River and arrive at Kishu Toshogu Shrine. It’s designated as a National Important Cultural Property. It was apparently built by Tokugawa Yorinobu to enshrine his father, Tokugawa Ieyasu. As we walked, we came across an incredible staircase! It’s a 108-step stone staircase called Samurai Hill. There are gentler steps nearby, but since we’re here, we decided to take these. The stone steps are very steep and quite nerve-wracking. Looking back halfway up can be a little scary. Once at the top, the view is spectacular. Looking directly below is incredibly impressive. We persevered. We entered through the Romon gate. The admission fee is 300 yen for adults. After praying, we admired the sculptures and murals around the main hall and worship hall. The Romon gate is beautifully colored in vermilion. Beyond that, we could see the beautiful ocean and cityscape of Wakanoura. We chose to descend the gentle slope. The steps were steeper than I expected, so please be careful. I returned to the fork in the road from Samurai Hill. The approach to the shrine was surrounded by trees and paved with stones. I walked back along this quiet path. Next, I headed to the nearby shrine. I arrived at Wakaura Tenmangu Shrine. It enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. It is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Then, before my eyes, I saw 50 stone steps. Can you imagine how steep they are? Each step was so high I was nervous about tripping. I paid my respects. Looking back, I could see the entire Wakaura Bay from the vermilion tower gate. It was a spectacular view that made me want to take my time admiring it. The descent was a little gentler. In front of me was the stone steps I had just climbed. From the side, I could clearly see how steep they were. At the foot of Kishu Toshogu Shrine and Wakaura Tenmangu Shrine, there was a pond with a red bridge spanning it, which was very picturesque. It was still a hot day and I was sweating, but I was glad I had climbed the stone steps of the two shrines. It was about time for a tea break. A castle came into view straight ahead. Finally , we arrived at the Wakayama Museum of Modern Art. The roof is distinctive! The escalator is truly moving. The building is very unique. It was designed by architect Kurokawa Kisho. Wakayama Castle can be seen to the right. The museum, castle, and greenery are in perfect harmony. There was also a spherical artwork. We thoroughly enjoyed the impressive exterior. Next, we headed to the museum’s cafe. It’s on the second floor. The name of the cafe is BRING BOOK STORE. It looks like a great place to relax while reading a book. We ordered and sat down. (The flags are cute hearts.) The bookshelves covering the entire wall are a nice touch. The terrace seating would be nice in the coming season. We also had a view of Wakayama Castle. We ordered an iced Americano (500 yen), iced tea (450 yen), and a seasonal fruit tart (700 yen). It was hot, so the ice cream was perfect! The seasonal fruit tart was fig. It’s fig season. The firm tart crust was topped with lightly sweetened fresh cream and soft, juicy figs – it was absolutely delicious. Thank you for the meal. Leaving the museum, we headed to our next destination: to see the ocean! We arrived at Saikazaki Lighthouse. Let’s climb up straight away. I wonder what kind of view we’ll see. Once we reached the top, we were rewarded with a panoramic view stretching into the distance. In the distance, we could see Awaji Island and Tomogashima. From left to right, these are Futagojima, Nakanoshima, and Oshima. The sun was out, and the view was beautiful. Finally, we went to a spot that caught my eye: Japan’s Amalfi. We arrived in Saikazaki. A port town with a nostalgic atmosphere. A scenic spot since ancient times, it apparently flourished as a fishing village. And this is Japan’s Amalfi. What do you think? Does it resemble Italy’s Amalfi Coast? I’ve never been there, so I don’t know, but this place also has beautiful scenery. It was a day where I thoroughly enjoyed Wakayama. Thank you for watching.
