Celebrity Millennium around Japan | Osaka | Hiroshima | Busan
We are on a 12-day cruise circumnavigating Japan on the Celebrity Millennium. After a day in Kyoto yesterday, we have today in Asaka before the ship departs at 400 p.m. Day two in Asaka, and we’re off to Osaka Castle. [Music] It’s a very easy trip by train into downtown Asaka. Asaka Castle. [Music] Not very active though. I have to say [Music] you can take a lift up, but there’s an enormous queue. It’s only five flights of stairs. Yes. [Music] After the castle, we walk and then catch the subway to the lively area of Dott and Bori for lunch. [Music] Here we go. Oh man, I’m sure there’ll be another. All right, at Kuri Sushi here in Osaka. Here we go. Perfect. Here we go. Lunch at Kura. Highly recommended. [Music] So we just arrived. into Coochie and we thought we’d try the Spa Cafe for breakfast. A new experience for us, is it not Stuart? Correct. To be honest, we weren’t very impressed with the Spa Cafe. The offering is pretty limited, but it’s fine for a snack. Nice place by the window as we sail into Kochi. We’ve been to Coochie before, so we’re actually going to treat today. It’s a sea day. We think we’ll stay on board. [Music] After Kochi, we sail onto Hiroshima here in blue as we enter Hiroshima. [Music] And it’s a lovely day in Harashima. Stuart’s listening to the international news on his phone. We’ve enjoyed a relaxed, peaceful breakfast at Blue, haven’t we? We have. Was good. It was good. And now we’re going to do our self-guided tour of Parroshima. Now, that looks like an aluminium spaceship. Looks like an aluminium spaceship, but I’m sure it’s some sort of piece. Some sort of memorial. Good morning. The port shuttle drops you at a tram depot where it is a 20-minute ride to the center of town. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Flame of peace. There will be crowds at the Peace Memorial Museum, but this underground memorial hall was empty and very moving. [Music] From the peace park, we walk to Hiroshima Castle, which understandably has been completely rebuilt since the Second World War. [Music] Was [Music] it worth the walk up here, June? I think it was. It’s really good. Yeah, it’s nice. Not to mention, there’s a great breeze. It is a great breeze. It’s a bit steamy inside. I like to take shots of people taking shots. So, after a hard walking, a hard morning walking around, we’re back at Turushi. [Music] [Music] This is [Music] sweet. The little kitties down there with their flags making our final preparations for departing from Russia. It was pretty pretty good day. Really good. Yeah. Very interesting. Yeah. So, we saw the Peace Park, walked to the castle, had another fabulous sushi lunch at Kura, and then back on the ship at 2:30 p.m. Now preparing for sail away and a Cday tomorrow on the way to South Korea and Busousan. [Music] For this sea day, we decided to try the Ocean View Cafe Buffet for breakfast for a change. Sustenance. Sustenance. What a way to start a C day. I asked and he promised me that that was actual cream. So Oh, yeah. What is So is it pancakes? Is it? Uh yeah, it’s pancakes. Right. We got ham off the bone, sort of a salmon benedict, Americanstyle bacon, and some beans. A hearty breakfast on a sea day. And then after lying around all morning, we thought we would experience the main dining room for a C-day lunch. The main dining room, the metropolitan dining room. Yeah. Yeah. And he said that’s where I was being honest. I’m like that’s all. No. I’ll give you that point. You want to be in my video. New York strip. [Music] And then after lunch, an explore of the ship. There’s Oh, this is the rende vu lounge. The rendevu lounge. The art gallery. Bearing your cruise memories, movie showing out on the prominard deck on our C day sailing to South Korea. So this is level five which is largely devoted to retail. I don’t feel that this shopping is really aimed at us. It’s definitely not aimed at us. No, certainly not the women’s jewelry. No marketplace. Have whatever you want. There you are. It’s all inflated. [Music] The next morning we found ourselves in Busousan, South Korea. Big restocking day. degree stocking day in Busousan. Here we are in Busousan heading out for another self-guided day of fun and adventure. There is a shuttle that gets you out of the port and drops you at Busousan station. Here we go. And our quick ascent up the hill has got us to this viewing space. So, we’re on our way to that monument up there. Got our view down to the bay. Climbed our way all the way up from the port or actually climbed our way from Busousan station which is level with the port. It’s pretty easy. You just have to almost dead reckon up the hill. Yeah, you’ll find a path. There he is. And there we go. You can now see the ship in full in full glory down there. I’d love to go in that pigod, but it’s being painted. Very good. And now we’re making our way into the big park on the top of the hill. Having left the builtup area behind us that’s taken what 20 minutes from the railway station. Not long. 20 minutes from the railway station, bus station, cross the road, walk up through Chinatown. But the steps are better than a workout in the gym. That’s my advice. They are. So, you know, do the trailer. Do the trailer. And another few minutes and we’re at Democracy Park. So, there is an entrance to the memorial. Yeah. The monument of the fallen heroes. Let’s have a look and see what this is about. This sacred monument was built in memory of deceased patriots born in Busousan who sacrificed themselves to defend our country since the establishment of the Republic of Korea on August 15th, 1948. [Music] This is the monument to fallen heroes. It is the monument to fallen heroes. So after the uh South Koreans uh repelled the North Korean invasion, H Well, it’s a tribute to anyone who’s lost their lives since the establishment of South Korea in 1948. I would also say, James, it’s a tribute to anyone who’s climbed the hill. Who’s climbed the hill? You’ll notice the absence of tourists. It’s like completely empty. And looks like there’s a travelator for the very last section. Oh, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with just taking this zigzaggy path to the top. Okay. So, that gets us to the top. Yeah. The top of the stairs. So, you see the next park and there’s a museum over there and another monument at the top. And then that tower, the white tower is actually another park a bit further down the hill. And then down towards the ocean is where we’re going to head to find some seafood markets. Okay. So, it’s 10:30. We left the ship at 9. I mean, we’re still on the ship at 9:00. had to go through passport control which took 5 minutes. Shuttle bus probably took 15 minutes. I think we got to Busousan station probably half past 9. So it’s taken us 50 minutes to an hour to essentially walk to the well I don’t think it’s the highest point in Busousan cuz that mountain over there looks high but the highest point where there’s a lookout. The highest nicest point. The highest nicest point. An unknown soldier maybe in there. Oh, thank you. Thank you snaky. Uh it’s a sculpture square. The patriot Sohi Jang Kyong. So this is independence hall and it contains a whole lot of uh relics from the independent struggle which is the independence from Japan. The democratic archives you can walk up this platform to the top. Looks like a Korean version of the Wiggles. The Angles. Hm. Could be a breach of copyright there. And the wiggles are known to be quite latigious. On top of this hill, museum to democracy. Lots of information about both the liberation from Japan, but also the essentially regime after independence, which was not democratic military control essentially. And there were various uprisings. Apart from some of the headings, there’s no English, but if you have Google Translate, you can get an idea. But it’s nice to have some shade and air conditioning after that walk up the hill. So, you walk up the platform and there’s a exhibition pavilions at various points. Permanent exhibition and a temporary exhibition takes you up to the viewing point. And there’s the Celebrity Millennium. And if we pan around, you can get an idea of our path so far. So we climb the hill, climb the hill to the monument, then walk from that hill to this hill. So it’s 20 11. So we’re sort of an hour and 50 minutes, 2 hours into our into our day since we arrived at uh Busousan station off the shuttle. Yeah. So now it can only be downhill from here. Pretty warm, but not unbearable. Some lovely paths through the gardens on the way down from the democracy monument. This is good outdoor gym equipment in the park. And finally at the bottom of the stairs, we’re out of the park and onto the roadway again. Still quite high as you can see. Finding some rather precipitous stairs. So underneath the roadway there’s a whole lot of public exercise equipment and you can wind your way down the hill via these staircases between the houses. If anyone’s been here, usually it’ll be familiar. And we found a supermarket to get a cold drink. And we’re replenishing with mango tango water. Happy about your mango tango? Yum. Oh, how nice is that? Yum. Sweet and fruity. You can see we’ve come down from uh the top of that hill. Just found our way into a market. This one seems to be more of a clothes market. Now, Gucci Market was the one I was pointed to when I was doing my research. So, here it is. We’ll see what it holds. You might struggle getting those through customs back in Melbourne. You wouldn’t get this before. Pity you’ve already dealt on the flip fog front cruise group. Lots of food vendors. Well, I have to say this is quite awful as a as a dog owner. The little puppy dogs, these little puppies down here. Little puppy. Poor little puppies. Human family. Yeah. So, this is the Jagotchi Fish Market. There are some serious fish here. [Music] So, we’ve moved up to the second floor of the fish market, which I think it is. And there’s more restaurants up here. Having seen the first floor, Stuart’s not so keen to indulge. Well, to be honest, you know, like if you caught one fish on a hook, you’d say, “Oh, this is great. I can have fish for dinner.” But seeing just thousands and thousands of fish all in small pans, it Yeah, I’m I’m not up for sushi today. Okay, that’s the thing. There was no when confronted with where your food comes from, it can seem much less appealing. Yeah. And that is our lunch spot. So, having seen the fresh fish market and then all the fish vendors upstairs, we’ve decided to go to a more traditional cafe for lunch. Well, by traditional you mean less less fishy traditional. So, we’re having a panini. Panini. [Music] This is summer fruits French toast. Stude’s got an iced chocolate and I’ve got an iced coffee. And this is a bogi beef sandwich. Bulgogi. B U L G O G I. Not sure how to say that. You definitely want to go there. So, having consumed a lovely lunch, our last effort is to get the subway back to Busousan station. And here is the subway entrance to keep on the train. [Music] Well, there’s Busousan station. Welcome to Busousan. That is the entry to Chinatown where we started our walk up the hill somewhere here. So off our shuttle tugs getting in place for our sail away from Busousan. [Music] And with that we sailed away from Busousan to enjoy another sea day. In our next video, we will enjoy the port of Hakodate in northern Japan before returning to Yokohama to disembark. If you would like to see more videos of Stuart and I traveling the world, please like, comment, and subscribe. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat.

Some day we will get to Japan! 🇯🇵 Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Hi James, your vlogs make me want to return to Japan, we loved our first visit. I’m planning travel around Japan on their marvellous coastal ferry network…a great way to connect with Japanese culture and significantly inexpensive.
Kudos for Stuart for his feelings towards the fish market…we totally agree with him👍
