peaceful walk. Today we are in Sendai, the largest city in the Tohoku region. A place deeply affected by the 2011 earthquake,
but now filled with calm, color, and quiet strength. During this walk, we’ll pass through ancient castle ruins and vibrant autumn trees,
in one of Japan’s most underrated autumn routes. So, let’s walk! Sendai International Center Exhibition – 仙台国際センター展示棟 A burst of color appears along the quiet roadside. Approaching part of the Sendai Castle moat path, named Naganuma. Now approaching the Southeast Gate Ruins of Sendai Castle. Sendai Castle Sawamon Ruins – 仙台城 沢門跡 This large torii marks the entrance to the historic Aoba Castle area. Sendai Castle Honmaru Great Hall Ruins – 仙台城 本丸大広間跡 Sendai Castle Honmaru Ruins – 仙台城 本丸跡 Overlook View from Castle Area. Another peaceful glimpse of Sendai from above. Equestrian Statue of Date Masamune – 伊達政宗公騎馬像 Nature pause. Sendai Castle Ruins (Aoba Castle Ruins) – 仙台城跡 (青葉城址) Walking through the Great Hall Ruins. Moving back to the museum area. Stone monument near the path to the Sendai City Museum. 📍 Sendai Foliage Walk – From Castle Ruins to Autumn Colors 🍁
Hello Walkers,
We begin our walk in the heart of Sendai, right by Kokusai Center Station, following the peaceful road that leads to the historic Aoba Castle Ruins (also known as Sendai Castle Ruins). The path winds through dense autumn foliage, offering golden and crimson hues under a soft breeze.
After reaching the viewpoint near the castle, we slowly descend along one of Sendai’s most scenic walking trails, eventually arriving at the quiet and expansive Aobayama Park. Our journey ends near Kawauchi Oimawashi District, with a final glance toward the majestic Ohashi Bridge, surrounded by autumn leaves.
