ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Anderson Japanese Gardens partners with the Japanese Culture Center to host hands-on art and Aikido demonstrations.

The International Peace Day celebration takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. September 20 at Anderson Japanese Gardens, 318 Spring Creek Road in Rockford.

Visitors are invited to create origami cranes and experience harmony through the “art of peace.” The cranes will contribute to a rainbow art installation by Chicago-based artist, Ishita Gupta, made of 1,000 cranes.

The crane activity will be available throughout the entirety of the event.

At 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., the Aikido Association of America will present demonstrations of the modern Japanese martial art to emphasize non-resistance, harmony and inner peace.

Admission to the event is included with weekend admission to the gardens.
