I visited in mid-December 2024, which, while not as busy as the peak season in February, can still be considered a peak travel time Then, let’s get started in earnest! To get straight to the point, the total cost including gifts and souvenirs is $2,075 and the cost that purely includes the snacks we ate, excluding gifts for family and friends, is about $1,959 For reference, I didn’t do any shopping on this trip and focused solely on food I think it would be good to keep this point in mind The largest portion was actually the airfare It accounted for 40% of the total travel expenses Even though I used the low-cost airline Jeju Air, the round-trip ticket for two people cost $812 When converted to a per-person price, it was about $406 The flight time from Incheon to Hokkaido is about 2h40m Considering that flights to Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand take about 6 hours, the ticket prices were quite high despite the short distance So we booked a slightly cheaper hotel We stayed at Androom Hotel, which is about a 5min walk from Hosuisusukino, not in front of Sapporo or Odori Station but just a couple of stops away The room was small, but the water pressure was decent and clean The price here was $231 for 4 nights We compared several accommodation apps and booked There are many reasonably priced hotels in the city center, but we booked a bit late, so all of them were already fully booked The usual hotels that cost around $150 to $220 have jumped to about $440 to $510 so we booked a cost-effective hotel located a bit outside If you’re planning a trip to Sapporo, book in advance! And one more thing we prepared before the trip was a portable wireless router Usually, I use eSIM or USIM but we were so busy moving before the trip that we just couldn’t prepare in advance So, we hurriedly ordered right before leaving for the trip and picked up a portable Wi-Fi device at the airport Just in case it ran out of battery, we rented 2 and paid $24 but it turned out that one was enough But I found that eSIM card has really good value for money, so I will get this eSIM next time Also, we signed up for travel insurance about $12 for two I always get travel insurance every time I’ve organized the expenses I incurred before the trip, and it’s already about $1,079 Let me talk about the recommended itinerary for 5 days and how I spent money at the travel destinations I believe the trip started as soon as I arrived at the airport, so I’ll start from there I had lunch at Incheon Airport I arrived early at Airport, but there were so many people that the departure screening took a really long time So, I didn’t even have time to check out the duty-free shop and just had a quick meal We had a free coffee with my Samsung mileage card and bought one sandwich from cafe and two donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts to share And after 2 hour 40 minute flight, We were welcomed by Doraemon like this If you walk straight you’ll find a shopping mall The shopping mall has various souvenir shops as well as many different restaurants, it is good to eat on the day you arrive or depart Even though we had just eaten a simple lunch, we headed straight to Ichigen for ramen Then, we bought some underwear and socks at Uniqlo and took the bus to downtown Sapporo By the way, the buses only fill about half their seats so we had to skip a few buses before getting on it took quite a bit of time and we were cold We got off the bus and headed straight to the hotel checked in, dropped off luggage, and planned to go out This hotel was a small but cost-effective hotel where ramen was free and you could also use the dry sauna We wanted to explore the city and have a late-night snack, while there were various options, we wanted to eat yakitori However, it was the end of the year and a Friday night, so everywhere was fully booked After being rejected eight times, we finally found a place After wandering around the streets for over 2 hours,
we were freezing and starving, so we ordered too much food and
the dinner bill was quite expensive However, we canโ€™t skip convenience store during Japan trip We bought some water and a few simple snacks We didn’t order breakfast at the hotel, so we decided to have brunch at Nijo Market We walked from the hotel to Nijo Market However, every kaisendon restaurants had a wait We grabbed a number and ate street food It was expensive, but we were so hungry that we ended up buying it anyway Then, after waiting for a while, we had lunch There are many kaiseidon restaurants in Nijo Market, but the most famous one had such a long line that we just ordered the top two from a reasonably good-looking place, and the total was $40 And we bought a slice of that Yubari melon we saw while waiting at the restaurant earlier It was a bit expensive, but it was really delicious Now we were full, we walked toward the city center Arrived at the TV Tower, which was just a 5min walk away We didn’t go up to the observation deck, but checked out the gift shop and looked around the Chirstmas market and had dessert at a nearby cafe Then it started snowing really heavily, so we took a break for a bit and then took the bus to the Sapporo Beer Museum(must-visit spot in Sapporo) The entrance is so beautiful, so be sure to take a picture The museum admission was free, and it was great to learn about the history of Sapporo beer in detail There was also a manual in Korean However, the tasting on the first floor was paid Usually, people order a platter to try three different beers but I felt like I’d be too stuffed, so I ordered one beer and my boyfriend ordered the platter and shared with me And we also ordered cheese Hokkaido is famous for its dairy farming, so if you visit, make sure to order cheese And we went to the souvenir shop to look around and bought chocolates with beer jelly as a gift There are many various souvenirs here I recommend stopping by the souvenir shop to take a look you can also try Genghis Khan in here However, we decided to eat dinner at the downtown and took the subway back to downtown Sapporo Then we went to a Genghis Khan restaurant that we discovered yesterday, and had some lamb It wasn’t such a famous place, but it had a Korean menu, which made ordering convenient By the way, English really doesn’t work in Sapporo, so ordering food was quite challenging Even using translation apps, communication often failed The taste here was a bit ordinary, like what we know The portions weren’t big, so we ordered more and ate a lot, which came to $58.5 Since we were full, we walked around the city visited shopping malls and also stopped by Mega Donki We also went to a department store Actually, I heard that there are many discounted food if you go near closing time, so I thought I might find something for a late-night snack, but almost everything was sold out, I couldn’t buy anything It was a mistake to plan to buy discounted food at the department store So we just had a parfait and pancakes at a famous cafe in the basement of Stella Place We were so full that we walked 40 minutes back to the hotel But I can’t skip the convenience store on the way We stopped by Lawson and bought some food like pudding and egg sandwiches for breakfast Honestly, we were really full, but we couldn’t miss the free ramen offered by the hotel, so when my boyfriend suggested eating it, we ended up having the hotel service ramen The third day has arrived Today is the day for the Biei tour that we reserved in advance The Biei tour costs about $87 per person, and I’ll provide more details in the section below we had to leave early in the morning to match the tour departure time Most of the Biei tours depart from the north square of Sapporo Station, when I arrived, there were really, really many people I recommend that those going on the Biei tour leave early We did arrive on time, but it wasn’t super early, so there were no available seats on the bus We barely managed to squeeze into the very back seat, but I almost ended up sitting separately By the way, the bus seats are fixed from the moment you sit down until the end We stopped by a rest area to use the restroom and bought some famous cream buns and yogurt to share While enjoying the scenery of the heavy snowfall, we soon arrived in Biei and had lunch We had about 1 hour and 30 minutes of free time, during which we had a meal, explored Biei, and visited a small cafe in the neighborhood And then we finally arrived at the place the long-awaited solo Christmas tree But since this is private property, we couldn’t stay for long We were able to stay for about 30 minutes In the meantime, the guide took photos of each team, and we spent our time taking pictures of each other Then, we went to the famous Four Seasons Hill, where we can see an incredible flower field in spring, summer, and autumn, not in winter Although we couldn’t see the flower field, we were able to go sledding here The cost of the sledding was not included in the tour, so we paid extra for it Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when I first saw that we were going down a small hill on a plastic sled, but after trying it once, it was so much fun I went sledding about four times lol The guide here also took some great photos, so I got some amazing shots And I also tried corn at the snack bar it was really delicious The next stop was the Takushinkan.shop which was almost right next door Here, I saw photos of Biei and also looked at the birch tree path The next stop was the last part of the tour, White Beard Falls However, there wasn’t much to see here, so we only had about 20 minutes to spend The underground water formed by volcanic activity flows through the cracks in various directions, resembling a white beard, which is how it got its name This waterfall flows all year round without freezing, and in winter, the water vapor freezes on the branches, creating this stunning scenery Therefore, I recommend visiting it in winter Now, move to Sapporo downtown after finishing the tour The destination is the same as the departure point The guide made a reservation at a restaurant so as soon as we arrived, we went straight to the restaurant for dinner After dinner, we went to Kaldi in the basement of the Apia shopping mall through the huge underground passage connected from the basement of Sapporo Station, and I bought a jam as a gift On the way down, we stopped by Starbucks but they only had the Hokkaido and Japan cups, so I passed on it Then, I continued down the underground passage and stopped by Mega Donki to buy some snacks However, the tax refund queue was incredibly long it looked like we’d be waiting for at least 2 hours Since we didn’t buy that much, we gave up tax refund and paid on the first floor And today, we stopped by 7-Eleven to buy pudding and beer, and then returned to hotel Each Japan convenience store has different snacks, so it’s good to visit a variety like Lawson, FamilyMart, and 7-Eleven Today is the day to go to Otaru, a port city about 40 minutes away from Sapporo We woke up a bit late and went to Sapporo Station around 11 o’clock to buy a JR train ticket and then headed to Otaru Otaru restaurants and cafes concentrated on one street So, after getting off at Minami-Otaru Station, I walked past the LeTAO, and several charming shops, and then we can take the train back from Otaru Station after seeing the Otaru Canal We also got off at Minami Otaru Station and moved to the main street with many tourists, and we decided to have ramen By the way, no matter where you go, waiting is a must To briefly explain Otaru, Itโ€™s the hometown of Shota of the manga ‘Mr Sushi King’, and being a port city, it has a supply of fresh seafood, making sushi famous There are indeed many high-end sushi restaurants, but we were so tired of waiting on the first day so we just had lunch at a restaurant on the main street After having lunch, we also had green tea ice cream, and ate cake at the 2nd floor cafe of LeTAO, We browsed the music boxes at the Music Box Museum that place is such a time sink! and bought music boxes for gifts and our collection and then it was already 5 o’clock getting dark Most of the shops in Otaru close early, so from this time on, we really walked around busily Had another ice cream, bought a pound cake for a gift, ate fish cakes at the Kamaei fish cake factory, enjoyed the Otaru Canal, and we arrived at Otaru Station We decided to have dinner in Sapporo to avoid feeling rushed about having to go back after eating in Otaru until dinner Tonight’s dinner menu was soup curry We went to the Karaku Shitate branch, to enjoy delicious soup curry When you eat soup currry, be sure to add broccoli Even though we were really full, we couldn’t just spend our last night at the travel destination since the trip ends tomorrow, so we decided to try the yakitori place one more As expected, there weren’t many seats,
but after several failed attempts, I was lucky to find a place with available seating We were able to experience the ‘Morimori’ culture here, where sake is generously poured It is said to be a culture that symbolizes abundance and prosperity as a form of hospitality And today, on way back, we stopped by a Family Mart to buy custard pudding and chocolate cream puffs They are really delicious I’ll organize delicious convenience store snacks soon The last morning has arrived The flight is around 3pm, so I needed to arrive at the airport by lunchtime So I came out a bit early in the morning and had breakfast at a restaurant near Sapporo Station that opens early, then went to a very stylish cafe there aren’t many cafes in Japan with espresso machines; most of them have hand drip coffee, so I was really glad to drink we relaxed here with a cup and then bought a train ticket to arrive at the airport As soon as we arrived at the airport, we bought a Le Tao cake and some snacks at the mall before heading to check in At that time, there was an event if you paid with UnionPay through Naver Pay, you would get a 10% discount, so I was able to buy the Le Tao cake with discount Our goal was to buy some souvenirs, check in our luggage, and have lunch before boarding the plane, but our plans completely fell apart The route from Sapporo to Incheon(Seoul) does not allow online check-in but they opened the counter 2 hours before the line for checking in luggage was so long that after waiting for 3~40 min, the timing became quite tight Since we also had to go through departure immigration,
we just went straight in, but the line for departure immigration was also very long, so it took quite a while We definitely arrived at the airport early, but we had no spare time We barely had time to browse the airport duty-free shops, so we just quickly bought snacks in about 30 minutes and then boarded the plane I don’t know if it’s because Jeju Air is a low-cost airline, we couldn’t board the plane right away and had to take a shuttle to get to the plane, so there was really no time to spare Looking back on this trip to Sapporo, it was quite a satisfying journey as I got to explore the city, enjoy a lot of food, and visit nearby places like Otaru and Biei in a short amount of time For those planning a trip to Sapporo, It would be good to refer to the itinerary I shared today And if I review the travel expenses again, The airfare was $818 Food and drink costs were $378 Hotel was $233 Biei tour was $175 cafe and snacks were $140 Gifts were $117 Shopping was $112 Transportation was $69 Wifi costs were $24 and travel insurance was 17,676 won, totaling $2,077 If we exclude the gift expenses, itโ€™s $1,958 which means the cost per person is around $979 This cost is based on one woman and one man going to eat heartily at a restaurant and izakaya and drinking quite a bit, so if you are planning a trip where two women go, drink little, and buy snacks at a convenience store instead of going to an izakaya it can be done for about $871 per person If you buy the flight a bit cheaper, you can reduce it further As for the cash ratio, we brought 30,000 yen (about $205) in cash used about 53,000 yen (about $362) with a travel card and paid the rest in advance with a card in Korea, through Naver Pay with Union Pay, or simply with a credit card There are still a few places where only accept cash, so I recommend bringing around $200 in cash I’ve talked a recommended itinerary and travel expenses for a 5-day trip to Sapporo If today’s video helpful, please subscribe, like, and leave a comment If you’re curious about specific travel vlogs, please check out the Sapporo travel video vlogs I will return with more Sapporo travel information video Thank you for watching today as well Bye bye~~~!
