NYC’s Best Hidden Gem Food Court! New York Food Court (Flushing Queens) | Jeremy Jacobowitz
Here are three must eat dishes at the best hidden gem food court in New York City. Let me tell you why. Tucked beneath the busiest stretch of Main Street in Flushing, Queens, is the New York Food Court, where you will see the beating heart of immigrant New York at work. Opened in 2014, it’s packed with mom and pop stalls serving everything from ample noodles, Sichuan spicy skewers, Taiwanese fried chicken, dumplings, and more. The place feels a little chaotic. bright signs, clattered walks, to smell chili oil in the air. But that’s the magic. It’s not some polished food hall built for Instagram. It’s a community hub where locals line up for their favorite dumpling or roast pork rice plate, and where adventurous eaters can wander stall to stall, tasting the flavors of China and all over Asia without leaving the basement. This is Flushing at its purest, loud, flavorful, and constantly evolving. So, love food as much as I do? Like and subscribe so you don’t miss one bite. videos coming soon from Kyoto, Los Angeles, and of course, more for my hometown of New York City. I was definitely overwhelmed and took a few laps to figure out what I wanted to try and game plan for how much I could really eat. Immediately, my eyes are drawn to Jean Laoju because I’m a sucker when I see someone making fresh dumplings and buns. I got the pan fried pork buns that are made fresh to order for $8.99. They are stuffed pork and veggie and then steamed and fried and served with a black vinegar sauce. These things are absolutely monster big. M. I got that first bite. Fill it up. All that sauce. These things are so crunchy. So juicy. It’s a little bit greasy, but filling up with that vinegar really helps cut that nicely. M. And really nice crunch. And then like pretty nice chew in the middle, too. M. I had to be smart in my decisions so I could try as much as I could. And the lamb burger alo ham noodles caught my eye and I’d remember that that was one of the stops eater had recommended. Inside of this toasted chewy bun is a lamb mixture of cumin peppers and jalapenos and this was $7. The aromatics are absolutely incredible. It is a heat I wouldn’t say a hot heat like a real nice in that bite. Really juicy. The bread is really really crusty. Feels a nice chew and it soaks up all the flavor coming from the meat also. M so good. Just enough room for one more spot. And after having a wonderful chat with a gentleman that comes in frequently, he told me I had to try 8090 Taiwan if I wanted a true taste of what he grew up eating in Taiwan. I got their specialty Taiwanese style steak for $27, which has steak, eggs, noodles, corn, broccoli, and comes with an iced tea and a salad. You then choose between mushroom sauce or they recommended I try the black pepper sauce, which I got. This dish comes out sizzling. I had to pause to not just let it cool, but to take in the whole messing moment. So, basically, between each stop, I’m going back to the front of the food court because I don’t have any service here. And I was up front just like researching being like, “What? I’m so overwhelmed. what the hell should I eat? And this lovely gentleman came up to me. He was like, “What what are you doing?” And I was like, “Oh, you’re an influencer, Tik Tok, whatever.” And he’s like, you know, this is and he explained to me just like the history of this place and how this like truly means something to so many different people because like real Chinese people come here and eat and how like every place here is such a good representation of the vastness of China. And he originally is from Taiwan. I was like, “All right, well then I got to ask you like what do I get?” And he’s like, 8090, this is the place real Taiwanese people go. This is a dish you have to have. 8090 means so much to Taiwanese people in New York, you have to try this. So, I trust him. So, let’s try this. I mean, the thing came out sizzling, which is crazy. Tonyy’s sauce could be hot, but I was like, I can handle it. It’s definely steaming hot, but I think they were more warning me of its spice level. I don’t think it’s that spicy at all. I think honestly they see a person as white as I am and they’re very concerned that it can’t handle heat. But I can handle heat. The sauce is like really rich. A little bit of heat in there. All that beef. A big plate of meat. Cooked really well, too. Like that. You get an egg. You have some veggies. Got some protein. It like tickles the nose a little bit. Like a little sweet, very umami forward. It’s like a little bit of heat there. It captures you at the end. Here’s the thing about a place like this. I make in this video like three must eat spots to eat here. But truly, there are endless stalls here. There are endless dishes here. And you know, my approach when I come to these things is like, well, what’s kind of like what looks good to me? What do I want to eat? And I think it does like narrow what I could try because there’s just so few things that maybe I’m so familiar with. And I think I might gravitate towards that a little bit. So this is really just like scratching the surface of what you can try here. And truly, you know, my videos are my perspective. It’s it’s it’s what I want here. But like to really really really appreciate this type of place probably need someone that knows a little bit more about this type of food, frankly. But even just scratching the surface, man, it tastes so good. Damn. Also, it’s good to know that like most of these places just had Apple Pay anyway and they took all their credit cards, which I was a little worried about. 8090 doesn’t. They wanted cash and I did bring cash. I just didn’t bring enough for this dish. But you were able to sell them. So, I just kind of stepped outside, get got sell service, sell them on your scope. They did need $5 cash uh that you need to get back cuz they give you metal plate and all the people stealing it. So, I gave them cash for a deposit for plate and they’ll give it back to me when I bring this back to them. So much more I have to come back and try. So, definitely let me know in the comments if you want to see that. And if you made it this far, a sub would be great because I go on food adventures all over the world. And here are a few other videos I think you’d love. [Music]
