The organizer of the 2025 World Expo in Osaka says the number of general visitors has surpassed 20 million.

The Expo opened in April and runs until October 13. A total of 158 countries and regions are participating under the theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”

The organizer says the preliminary total number of visitors with tickets as of Thursday had reached more than 20.037 million.

Daily admissions averaged about 100,000 right after the Expo opened. But in the second half of August they had increased to about 150,000 and rose to 200,000 this week. The visitor total would rise to about 25 million if such a pace continues. That would fall short of the predicted number of 28.2 million visitors. But the visitor total is still expected to surpass the figure of 22 million seen as needed to turn a profit.

The Expo site is congested and it has become difficult to make reservations to visit pavilions.

The organizer says people with tickets who are unable to enter will not be eligible for refunds. Visitors are urged to confirm the situation on the reservation site. They are also advised to make early reservations for relatively uncrowded times such as weekday afternoons and at night.
