Traveling to Japan’s Timeless Countryside: Glamping with 15 Cats | japanese Cat | Washinmura

I visited a peaceful countryside glamping site where I could spend time with cats. Fifteen cats live on this vast land, roaming freely around old houses, tents, and the forest. Meals enjoyed in nature were simply wonderful. The highlight of my trip was the morning I spent in the forest with the cats. Please enjoy this warm and gentle time with them. 🐈 Hello! Today I’m at Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. This time, I’m heading to a countryside glamping site in Chiba, where cats live as villagers. Shinjuku Station is recognized by Guinness as the busiest station in the world. Highway buses depart from the 4th floor. This is Japan’s largest highway bus terminal, with buses leaving one after another. I found my bus! It leaves at 12:50. Heading to area D. I bought a coffee at the convenience store. The 12:50 bus bound for Tateyama Station. The ticket is correct. It takes 1 hour 18 minutes to my stop. Fare is 2,200 yen. Tokyo is cloudy, with a chance of rain. But Chiba seems to be holding up. Once we passed through the undersea tunnel… The sun came out! I’ve arrived. Let’s walk to the pickup spot where the inn staff will meet me. The inn is 9 km away, about 20 minutes by car. Shuttle service costs 2,000 yen per group (reservation required). We’re heading deep into the mountains. I’ve arrived at the village. Let’s go to the front desk. The café and the inn’s reception are in the same building. Hello. It’s nearly 32°C today, very hot. The cats spend their time wherever they like—at the café, in guest rooms for long stays, or out in the forest. The inn has six guest rooms. I booked the sauna for today… Silver-kun welcomed me at the reception. There are also two dogs here. If you’re up for it, you can take them for a walk. This is Waka-kun and his son Kirin-kun. Heading into an air-conditioned room. 👋 😊 You can also stay in the 200-year-old farmhouse in front, or the traditional gatehouse maisonette. Fifteen rescued former stray cats, rescue dogs, goats, and silkies live here. Today’s room is the Nordic-style tent. Behind the tent, a satoyama landscape stretches out. Let’s step into today’s room. One night with two meals for two people: 43,600 yen.
My solo plan: 39,180 yen with two meals. The solo plan includes free shuttle service and cat treats. 🐈 Air-conditioned. Hair dryer, face towels, bath towels, toothbrush.
(Bring your own sleepwear.) I hear a cat’s voice. This is Jasmine-chan. She’s a shy girl. Quiet but affectionate. So sweet. Looks like she was on patrol. I got profiles of the animals living in the village. The staff explained the house rules at reception. Bringing your own cat treats is not allowed. You can buy one bag of treats at reception, shown on the right. Looks like the cats won’t come out until evening. So I’ll take a break at the café. So cute. Cheesecake in a masu box. Rich flavor with a hidden twist. This is Jerry-kun. A little treat to say hello. Here you go. This is Okaki-kun. Sniffing without asking? That face is too funny. That’s all for treats today. A neighbor’s cat also came by to play. It’s cooled down a little, so let’s take a walk. I was shown a treehouse under construction. I’d love to stay here too. Jerry-kun also came outside. Waka-kun, the village chief, is out for a walk. Waka-kun is such a handsome boy. A pleasant breeze flows through. Since no other guests were around, I took a look at the sauna. Authentic wood-fired sauna. A resting area, a cold bath, and a changing room. Jerry-kun came to patrol the forest. The guardian of the forest sauna. I’ll come back to the sauna later. This is Ariel-chan. These two are siblings. In the main building, there’s an unmanned shop and a caretaker’s room. The caretaker’s room is in the building on the left, the unmanned shop on the right. A basket for collecting firewood in the forest. Extra firewood for the campfire. Various things are available to borrow for free. Since we’re in nature, there are some insects. Watch out for gnats in the early morning and evening. You can also buy drinks and snacks. Toilets and shower rooms. Reserved for today’s room, about 6–7 meters from the tent. The toilets are clean. Air-conditioned and comfortable. Jasmine-chan came to visit. Cooking utensils, BBQ sets, and coffee sets are all provided. Rice cooker pot. Soak the rice in water and set it aside. Ingredients for dinner and breakfast are in the fridge. Here are vegetables and seafood. Before heading to the sauna, I’ll cut the vegetables for the BBQ. Jasmine-chan is patrolling near the tent. It’s sauna time. Guests can book a private session for 45 minutes, free of charge. There’s Jerry-kun. Alright, please keep watch. Just having a cat nearby makes me feel safe. The wood smells so good. Pouring water over the sauna stones… My whole body warmed up instantly. Thank you, Jerry-kun. Here’s a treat to say thanks. I spent the rest of the time soaking in the night forest. What a lovely time. Night falls, and the cats are more active. Time to cook rice. Lighting the fire starter… It didn’t catch well, so I asked the caretaker for help. The staff kindly helped me. Shrimp and scallops. BBQ dish set. Sparkling lemon soda I bought. Following the instructions, the rice cooked perfectly. Rice cooked outdoors is the best. So much meat! And this is just one serving. The charcoal aroma made it absolutely delicious. Jasmine-chan likes to keep a comfortable distance. Dol-kun, the oldest, came back from the night road. There are feeding times in the morning and evening, but they seem to eat whenever they like. This is Kojiro-kun, the neighbor. And Anko-kun. Kojiro-kun’s rabbit-like tail is so cute. I’ll light a campfire and relax. Kojiro-kun. Looks like he’ll keep me company. The roasted marshmallows were delicious. 🤤 Paw-shaped light. I’m heading for a shower, and I’ll take a little walk to the front desk on the way. He is searching for the source of the sound… It was acorns falling from the trees. The treehouse looks so cool. Shasha-kun came back from the forest. That’s Suzu-chan in the front. Inside the tent, I can feel the forest sounds and fresh air more than I imagined. The bed is so fluffy. The tent is protected against insects, but sometimes tiny visitors sneak in. Good night. Around 1 a.m., I woke up to use the bathroom, and Jasmine-chan came to see me. Looks like she loves the sofa. Two hours later, she came to wake me up. Seems she’s heading home now. At dawn, I woke up to a loud noise. What was that?? When I nervously stepped out, it was Donuts-kun. Are you alright? He landed safely. Then came to visit my tent. Cats start their mornings early. Since I was already awake, I’ll go look for Jerry-kun in the forest. I wonder if Donuts-kun will come along too. Greeting Silver-kun. In his stray days, Silver-kun injured his left hind leg and now walks on three legs. The inn’s profile calls him “a brave hero with an unyielding spirit, even on three legs.” This is Tooth-chan, enjoying the breakfast salad buffet. Good morning. I wonder if Jerry-kun is around. Hmm? Tooth-chan. A meow from behind. Donuts-kun. Mind if I join you? The forest echoes with many different sounds. The wind is strong today, and it feels refreshing. Donuts-kun sneaks a little touch on Tooth-chan. A stare-down between the two… And a short break. Donuts-kun is watching Tooth-chan closely. Something caught their attention? Looks like Tooth-chan wants to come this way too. Since we’re here, let’s take a walk in the forest. One person and two cats. Whenever one moves, the others follow. A curious time spent as a trio. Tooth-chan tries to pounce while Donuts-kun is doing his business in the forest. But Donuts-kun is quick to notice. Now it’s the other way around. They spotted the camera. What a view. Amazing. 😎 Looking cool. Did you all spot Donuts-kun? He uses both paws when hunting. He’s hunting something I can’t see. I’ll head back to the tent first. Looks like Tooth-chan is coming along. But seems she wants to take a detour. Ariel-chan. Yes, she’s Donuts-kun’s sister. Jasmine-chan came to visit again. Let’s make breakfast. Breakfast set. Grilling yesterday’s leftover veggies. Huh? Donuts-kun, done playing? Looks like he’s resting here. Grilled sandwich time. I can add lettuce, right…? Ham, cheese. A little burnt, but it’s fine. Let’s eat. 😋 Mango juice. Coffee set. The water here is natural spring water. Such a lovely morning. Dishes are washed and placed in this basket. Tree tower. The breeze feels so good. It’s time for the cats’ breakfast. Huh? Donuts-kun’s sleeping pose. Beautiful. Cats’ breakfast time. Their stomach clocks are right on time. Heading over to Ariel-chan. Breakfast time begins. Let’s tell the cats. Today, about seven of them gathered. After eating, they each go wherever they like. Checkout is at 11 a.m. I’m glad I could take it slow. Jerry-kun! Thank you for playing with me. I left the key in the mailbox to check out. With some time before the shuttle arrived, I went into the forest. Tooth-chan, maybe? Thank you. Tooth-chan came to see me off. 🥺 Thank you. Let’s play again. Thank you for watching. 🐈
See you in the next video.

I spent a night in a glamping “village” in the countryside of Chiba, Japan. A 200-year-old farmhouse, Nordic-style tents… and the villagers are 15 rescued cats! 🐈
This place is called Washinmura, a retreat where 15 cats live freely, along with dogs, goats, and other animals.
Surrounded by forests and satoyama landscapes, the cats wander in and out of the tents and old house, napping, strolling through the woods, or gathering by the fire.
The highlight of my stay was a morning walk in the forest with the cats. Playful yet calm, they kept just the right distance— sharing the moment in such a gentle, beautiful way.
I stayed in a Nordic tent, where the sounds and fresh air of the forest made me feel as if I was sleeping outdoors.
I’d love for you to join me in this video, and share these peaceful moments with the cats 🐈☺️
